Demonology becomes a serious option once you unlock the Felguard at level 50. Your demon handles the tanking while you cast, which means fewer mechanics to juggle and a much more relaxed pace. Worth noting: Demonology’s damage output drops off at level 70 for endgame content, so you’ll likely want to switch specs when you get to raiding.

Destruction is the dungeon specialist. Immolate followed by Shadow Bolt spam deals excellent single-target damage, and the spec transitions cleanly into endgame raids. The problem is solo questing — Destruction burns through mana fast, and without Affliction’s built-in sustain, you’ll end up sitting between pulls a lot.
