TBC Classic Netherstorm Leveling Guide (67–70) – Quests & Tips

Netherstorm is where Outland stops feeling like a war zone and starts feeling like a broken world hanging at the edge of reality. Floating islands, crumbling arcane ruins, Goblin engineers running wild, and the looming shadow of Tempest Keep — this zone is one of the most visually unique areas in the entire expansion. It’s also one of the most efficient spots to push the final stretch to level 70 in TBC Classic Anniversary 2026.

This Netherstorm Leveling Guide covers everything you need: how to enter Netherstorm, which quest hubs to hit and in what order, the Tempest Keep dungeons, Arcatraz attunement, and how to set yourself up for endgame before you even hit 70.

How to Enter Netherstorm

Netherstorm is reached by crossing the Gyro-Plank Bridge from Blade’s Edge Mountains. As you cross, you’ll find Netherologist Coppernickels on the bridge — pick up the quest Off To Area 52 from him. This isn’t strictly required, but it’s a free breadcrumb that delivers you to the zone’s main hub with a quest already in progress.

Before you enter, make sure you accepted the intro quest from Shattrath as well — either Assist Exarch Orelis (Aldor) or Report to Spymaster Thalodien (Scryer). These start the Manaforge quest chain that runs through the entire zone and rewards a significant amount of Aldor or Scryer reputation.

Quick tip: Set your Hearthstone to Area 52 the moment you arrive. It sits in the center of the zone and acts as your logistics hub for the entire Netherstorm grind.

Quest Hubs and Routing

Netherstorm is a large zone with several distinct hubs, but the routing is cleaner than it looks. Almost all quests funnel through Area 52 first and then branch outward in a logical order.

Area 52 — Your Starting Point

Area 52 is the goblin-run rocket facility in the middle of Netherstorm and the primary quest hub for both Alliance and Horde. Accept every available quest here before heading out. The quests send you to the surrounding ruins, Manaforges, and eventually the other hubs across the zone.

Key early quests from Area 52 include clearing the Arklon Ruins, dealing with the Manaforges, and the infamous Dr. Boom encounter — a group-recommended but soloable fight if you use positioning carefully (stand on the barrels to avoid his bombs).

Kirin’Var Village — The Ghost Town

Kirin’Var Village is a haunted former mage settlement, now overrun by Burning Legion forces and spectral residents. It’s one of the more lore-rich areas in Netherstorm and sends you on chains that weave back and forth with Area 52. Do the Area 52 Manaforge quests first, then come to Kirin’Var for the full chain — the order matters for unlocking follow-ups.

Eco-Dome Midrealm — Clean and Dense

The Eco-Domes are pressurized, climate-controlled bubbles of living terrain sitting in the middle of the arcane chaos. Midrealm Post inside the dome has a solid cluster of quests with good density and minimal travel. Hit this hub after Kirin’Var Village — quests here naturally lead you into the next stage of the Consortium chain and eventually point you toward The Stormspire.

The Stormspire — Consortium HQ

The Stormspire is the Ethereal Consortium’s floating headquarters and serves as the late-game hub of Netherstorm. Quests here involve The Ethereum faction, the Forge Camps, and some group content. This is also where you pick up the major Consortium reputation chain — valuable if you’re aiming for Revered rewards.

🎯 Pro tip: The Stormspire also has the Consortium quartermaster. If you’ve been building reputation through Mana-Tombs runs since Terokkar, you may already be Honored or close to it by the time you arrive.

The Manaforges — Aldor and Scryer Quests

Scattered across Netherstorm are several Mana Forges — arcane energy-harvesting structures built by Kael’thas’ blood elves. Your Aldor or Scryer faction quest chain sends you to shut them down one by one. These quests are worth doing on top of everything else because they reward significant Aldor or Scryer reputation and are usually in the same area as your other objectives.

The Manaforge chain progresses in a set order: B’naar → Coruu → Duro → Ara. Don’t skip steps, and pick up each follow-up as soon as you turn one in.

Tempest Keep: The Dungeons

High above Netherstorm floats Tempest Keep, a former naaru vessel now occupied by Kael’thas Sunstrider. It houses three 5-man dungeons and the raid The Eye. A flying mount is required to reach the dungeon entrances — which means you won’t be running these during leveling. They’re your level 70 endgame content.

Dungeon Rep Faction Level Notable
The Mechanar The Sha’tar 69–70 Arcatraz Key shard from Pathaleon
The Botanica The Sha’tar 69–70 Arcatraz Key shard from Warp Splinter
The Arcatraz The Sha’tar 70 Requires Key to the Arcatraz
The Eye (Raid) 70 Phase 2 content, Kael’thas encounter

To unlock Heroic versions of all three dungeons, you need the Warpforged Key, purchased from the Sha’tar quartermaster in Shattrath once you reach Revered reputation with The Sha’tar.

The Arcatraz: Start the Attunement Now

The Arcatraz is the hardest of the three Tempest Keep wings and requires its own key. The attunement chain starts in Netherstorm — specifically from Nether-Stalker Khay’ji in Area 52. You won’t be able to complete it until level 70 (flying mount required), but picking up the early quest steps while you’re already here saves a trip back later.

How to Get the Key to the Arcatraz

  1. Start the chain with Nether-Stalker Khay’ji in Area 52.
  2. Work through the Consortium chain in Netherstorm (multiple steps).
  3. Finish the Netherstorm portion and travel to Shattrath to speak with A’dal.
  4. Accept How to Break Into the Arcatraz from A’dal.
  5. Defeat Pathaleon the Calculator in The Mechanar for the Bottom Shard.
  6. Defeat Warp Splinter in The Botanica for the Top Shard.
  7. Return both shards to A’dal in Shattrath to receive the Key to the Arcatraz.

🎯 Why this matters: The Arcatraz contains quests tied to Karazhan attunement and is a major source of Sha’tar reputation. Getting the key early means you can jump straight into it at 70 without coming back to do pre-work.

Sha’tar Reputation: The Heroic Key Grind

The Sha’tar is the faction tied to Tempest Keep, and reaching Revered unlocks the Warpforged Key for Heroic access. Here’s how reputation works in Netherstorm:

  • Quests in Netherstorm — the best early source of Sha’tar rep, especially the Manaforge chain and Kirin’Var Village chains.
  • The Mechanar and The Botanica (Normal) — grant Sha’tar rep per mob kill, best farmed at 70.
  • The Arcatraz (Normal and Heroic) — continued Sha’tar rep progression.
  • Aldor/Scryer turn-ins — also award Sha’tar rep as a side benefit, so your faction grind does double duty.

Professions and Gathering in Netherstorm

Herbalists will find Dreaming Glory and Netherdust Bush scattered across the zone — both solid sellers in Phase 1. Netherstorm also has Fel Iron and Adamantite ore nodes, with some Khorium starting to appear if you’re lucky.

Engineers have a reason to love Netherstorm beyond questing. The zone has unique crafting materials and reputation recipes tied to the Consortium. If Engineering is your profession, the goblin NPCs in Area 52 have flavor interactions worth exploring.

Quick Tips Before You Leave Netherstorm

  • ✅ Set your Hearthstone to Area 52 immediately.
  • ✅ Pick up Off To Area 52 from Netherologist Coppernickels on the bridge.
  • ✅ Accept your Aldor or Scryer intro quest in Shattrath before entering.
  • ✅ Start the Arcatraz attunement chain in Area 52 early — finish it at 70.
  • ✅ Do the Manaforge chain in order: B’naar → Coruu → Duro → Ara.
  • ✅ Visit The Stormspire for Consortium quests and the quartermaster.
  • ❌ Don’t try to run Tempest Keep dungeons while leveling — flying mount required.
  • ❌ Don’t skip Kirin’Var Village — the quest chain rewards are strong.
  • ❌ Don’t leave Netherstorm without starting your Sha’tar rep through zone quests.

Where to Go Next

Most players hit level 70 somewhere in Netherstorm, especially if they didn’t skip content in earlier zones. If you still need a few bars of XP, head to Shadowmoon Valley — it has excellent quest density and some of the strongest pre-raid gear rewards in the game.

Once you’re 70, your priority is Heroic dungeon access and the Karazhan attunement chain. For the full roadmap from 60 to 70 and how Netherstorm fits in, check the TBC Classic 60–70 Leveling Guide. For zone-by-zone coverage of all of Outland, see the TBC Classic Leveling Guide hub.

FAQ

What level should I start Netherstorm?

Netherstorm is tuned for levels 67–70. Most players arrive around 67 after finishing Nagrand or Blade’s Edge Mountains. The quests scale well through 70, and you’ll likely ding max level somewhere in the zone if you haven’t already.

How do I get to Netherstorm?

Cross the Gyro-Plank Bridge from Blade’s Edge Mountains. On the bridge, pick up the quest Off To Area 52 from Netherologist Coppernickels. This leads you directly to Area 52, the main quest hub in the zone.

Can I run Tempest Keep dungeons while leveling?

No — a flying mount is required to reach the dungeon entrances, and flying mounts are only available at level 70. The Mechanar, The Botanica, and The Arcatraz are all endgame content. Focus on completing zone quests and start the Arcatraz attunement chain so you’re ready to run them at 70.

How do I unlock Heroic Tempest Keep dungeons?

You need the Warpforged Key, which requires Revered reputation with The Sha’tar. Build Sha’tar rep through Netherstorm quest chains, Normal runs of The Mechanar and The Botanica, and your Aldor or Scryer faction turn-ins — these also award Sha’tar reputation as a side benefit.

What is the Arcatraz Key and how do I get it?

The Key to the Arcatraz is required to enter The Arcatraz dungeon in Tempest Keep. The quest chain starts in Area 52 with Nether-Stalker Khay’ji. After completing the Netherstorm portion, you speak with A’dal in Shattrath, then obtain two key shards by defeating Pathaleon the Calculator in The Mechanar and Warp Splinter in The Botanica. Combine them at A’dal to receive the key.

What happens if I hit level 70 before finishing Netherstorm?

That’s completely normal. Once you hit 70, quests in Netherstorm stop giving XP and start giving gold instead. Completing the remaining quests is still worth it — the gold adds up fast, and several chains reward strong pre-raid gear. You can also start the full Tempest Keep dungeon run at this point.
