TBC Classic Mage Macro Guide (Frost, Fire & Arcane) — Burning Crusade Anniversary 2026

Macros are one of the fastest ways to close the skill gap on a Mage. Whether you’re running Karazhan, pushing arena rating on your Frost build, or blasting trash in Serpentshrine, having the right TBC Classic Mage macros means fewer wasted GCDs and cleaner execution on every cooldown window.

This guide covers all the essential Mage macros for TBC Classic Anniversary — organized by category so you can grab exactly what you need, whatever your spec.

Why Mage Macros Matter in TBC Classic

Compared to most DPS classes, Mage actually requires a fairly small macro set to be competitive — but the macros you do use matter a lot. Your main areas of gain are:

Once you have these locked in, you’ll feel the difference on every pull.

How to Create Macros in TBC Classic

  1. Press Escape → Macros or type /macro in chat
  2. Click New and give it a name (and icon if you want)
  3. Paste the macro code into the text box
  4. Drag the macro to your action bar and keybind it

⚡ TBC Classic allows up to 36 general macros and 18 character-specific macros — you have plenty of room.

Universal Mage Macros (All Specs)

These macros work for Frost, Fire, and Arcane equally well. Start here.

Stopcasting Counterspell / Spellsteal

#showtooltip
/stopcasting
/cast [mod:shift] Spellsteal; Counterspell
/cqs

🎯 The most important macro on your bars. Drop whatever you’re casting and land Counterspell instantly. Hold Shift to Spellsteal instead. /cqs makes it spammable without queueing issues.

Ice Block Toggle

#showtooltip
/cancelaura Ice Block
/cast Ice Block
/cqs

One button to enter and exit Ice Block. First press casts it, second press cancels it — no waiting around for 10 seconds when you just needed to clear a bleed.

Stopcasting Blink

#showtooltip Blink
/stopcasting
/cast Blink

Gets Blink out immediately without being blocked by an active cast. Essential for escaping Frost Nova on yourself in PvP or repositioning during AoE pulls.

Focus Polymorph (CC Target)

#showtooltip Polymorph
/clearfocus
/focus
/cast Polymorph
/cqs

Sets your current target as focus and casts Polymorph immediately. You still need to manually re-Polymorph your focus if the sheep breaks — but you’ll always know exactly which target is CCed.

✅ Keep the focus frame visible so you can react when the sheep timer is running low.

Mouseover Polymorph

#showtooltip Polymorph
/stopcasting
/cast [@mouseover, harm, nodead] Polymorph

Sheep whatever your cursor is hovering over without losing your main target. Great for 5-man dungeons where you need to CC a mob while tanking a different one stays selected.

Conjure All — Water, Food & Mana Gems

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:shift, btn:2] Conjure Mana Ruby; [mod:shift] Conjure Mana Emerald; [mod:ctrl] Ritual of Refreshment; [btn:2] Conjure Food; Conjure Water

Five spells in one button. Left-click conjures water, right-click conjures food. Shift + left-click makes Mana Emerald, shift + right-click makes Mana Ruby. Ctrl + left-click casts Ritual of Refreshment for group summons.

Smart Mount Macro

#showtooltip
/use [flyable] Tawny Windrider; Great Gray Kodo

Replace “Tawny Windrider” with your flying mount and “Great Gray Kodo” with your ground mount. Automatically picks the right one based on zone.

Mouseover Arcane Intellect Buff

#showtooltip Arcane Intellect
/stopcasting
/cast [@mouseover, help, nodead] Arcane Intellect

Cast Arcane Intellect on whoever your cursor is hovering over. Fast and reliable for pre-pull buffing in a group.

Frost Mage Macros

Summon Water Elemental + Freeze (Burst Opener)

#showtooltip
/cast [nopet] Summon Water Elemental
/click PetActionButton5

Summons your Water Elemental if it isn’t out, then immediately commands it to use Freeze. Use this at the start of your burst window — your pet’s Freeze sets up a Shatter combo for massive crit damage.

⚡ Some users report needing to remove the space in “PetActionButton5” depending on their client version. Test both formats.

Freeze at Cursor Position

#showtooltip
/cast [@cursor] !Freeze

Commands your Water Elemental to drop Freeze exactly where your cursor is — saves the confirmation click and half a second of reaction time.

Icy Veins + Trinket Burst

#showtooltip
/use [mod:shift] 13
/cast [mod:shift] Icy Veins
/cast Frostbolt
/cqs

Normal press casts Frostbolt. Shift press pops your upper trinket slot and Icy Veins simultaneously, then fires a Frostbolt. Align this with your Water Elemental summon for maximum burst.

Ice Block → Blink Escape

#showtooltip Blink
/cancelaura Ice Block
/cast Blink

Cancels Ice Block and instantly Blinks in one press. Use when you’ve used Ice Block to reset a bad situation and need to reposition immediately after.

Ice Lance Out of Ice Block (Shatter Setup)

#showtooltip Ice Lance
/cancelaura Ice Block
/cast Ice Lance

Exits Ice Block and fires Ice Lance in one button. If your target is frozen, this lands while the Shatter multiplier is still active.

Fire Mage Macros

Combustion + Trinkets Burst

#showtooltip Arcane Power
/stopcasting
/use 13
/use 14
/cast Combustion
/cast Fireball
/cqs

⚔️ Fires both trinket slots and Combustion simultaneously, then starts casting Fireball. Always lead with your opener during bloodlust/heroism windows for maximum Ignite stacking.

Flamestrike at Cursor

#showtooltip
/cast [@cursor] Flamestrike

Drops Flamestrike exactly where your cursor is without the targeting circle confirmation. Saves over half a second on each AoE setup — adds up fast in long trash pulls.

Presence of Mind + Pyroblast (PvP)

#showtooltip Pyroblast
/stopcasting
/cast Presence of Mind
/cast Pyroblast
/cqs

The classic PomPyro combo. Presence of Mind makes Pyroblast instant — a reliable one-shot opener in PvP when paired with a pre-cast Fireball in flight.

🎯 This is primarily a PvP macro. Fire isn’t the strongest arena spec in TBC, but in battlegrounds and world PvP it can delete targets before they react.

Arcane Mage Macros

Arcane Power + Trinkets + Arcane Blast Full Burst

#showtooltip Arcane Power
/stopcasting
/use 13
/use 14
/cast Arcane Power
/cast Presence of Mind
/cast Arcane Blast
/cqs

⚔️ Your full burst macro. Pops both trinkets, Arcane Power, Presence of Mind, and fires Arcane Blast — all in one keypress. Use this at the start of every major burn phase.

Mana Emerald + Arcane Blast Combo

#showtooltip
/use Mana Emerald
/cast [mod:shift] Frostbolt; Arcane Blast
/cqs

Restores mana from your Mana Emerald and immediately starts casting. No GCD lost between the gem use and your next spell. Shift casts Frostbolt instead for filler weaving.

Super Mana Potion + Arcane Blast

#showtooltip
/use Super Mana Potion
/cast [mod:shift] Frostbolt; Arcane Blast
/cqs

Same idea as the Mana Emerald macro, using a Super Mana Potion instead. Time this with your burn windows — you can only use one potion per encounter.

Presence of Mind Flexibility Macro

#showtooltip
/cast Presence of Mind
/cast [mod:shift] Frostbolt; [mod:ctrl] Conjure Mana Emerald; Arcane Blast
/cqs

Three different outcomes from one button:

PvP Macro Table

<

Macro Purpose Spec
Focus Counterspell Interrupt without losing target All
Arena 1/2/3 Polymorph Sheep specific arena targets All
Ice Block Toggle Instant defensive + instant exit All
Blink Stopcasting Emergency reposition All
Frost Nova + Blink PvP kiting combo Frost
PomPyro Instant Pyroblast burst opener Fire
PoM + Instant Sheep CC without cast time Arcane/Frost
