How to Get to Draenor from All Cities | Warlords of Draenor Guide

Draenor is one of the few zones in WoW with two completely different ways in: the old-school Dark Portal questline that builds your Garrison, or a direct portal if you just want to be there without any of the Warlords of Draenor story. This guide covers both, from every major hub.

📍 Quick answer: If you’ve unlocked it on your account already, just take the Ashran portal in your faction’s capital city portal room — it drops you straight into Stormshield (Alliance) or Warspear (Horde) on Draenor, no quest required. If this is your first time, you’ll need to start Warlords of Draenor: The Dark Portal first.

How to Get to Draenor from Stormwind

Head to the Stormwind Portal Room (Wizard’s Sanctum, in the Mage Quarter). Once you’ve unlocked Draenor on your account, you’ll find a portal to Stormshield sitting in the same wing as the portals to Boralus and Oribos. One click and you’re on Draenor.

If you haven’t unlocked it yet, go to the Hero’s Call Board in the Trade District instead and look for the Tanaan Jungle option. Accepting it starts Warlords of Draenor: The Dark Portal, which sends you to Archmage Khadgar at the Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands.

How to Get to Draenor from Orgrimmar

In the Orgrimmar Portal Room (Pathfinder’s Den), the Ashran portal to Warspear sits in the same area as the Caverns of Time and Shattrath portals. If it’s already unlocked on your account, this is the fastest route in.

If it’s your first visit, check the Warchief’s Command Board for the Tanaan Jungle quest option instead. It leads to the same Warlords of Draenor: The Dark Portal quest and sends you to Khadgar in the Blasted Lands.

How to Get to Draenor from Dornogal

Dornogal doesn’t have its own portal straight to Draenor. The fastest route is to take the existing Dornogal portal to Stormwind or Orgrimmar first, then use the Ashran portal in that city’s portal room to land in Stormshield or Warspear.

How to Get to Draenor from the Dragon Isles (Valdrakken)

Valdrakken’s main portal room, inside the Seat of the Aspects, has a dedicated portal straight to Ashran. This is the quickest way to Draenor if you’re already questing on the Dragon Isles — no need to fly all the way back to your capital city.

How to Get to Draenor via the Questline (First-Time Visitors)

If this is the first time anyone on your account is visiting Draenor, the portals above won’t be active yet. You need to play through the intro chain at least once. Here’s the actual sequence: ✅

• Step 1: Visit the Hero’s Call Board (Alliance) or Warchief’s Command Board (Horde) in your capital and accept the Tanaan Jungle / Dark Portal option.
• Step 2: Travel to the Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands and speak with Archmage Khadgar to begin Warlords of Draenor: The Dark Portal.
• Step 3: Step through the Dark Portal to enter the instanced Tanaan Jungle intro scenario.
• Step 4: Play through the scenario, which ends with you founding your Garrison in either Frostfire Ridge (Horde) or Shadowmoon Valley (Alliance).
• Step 5: Once complete, the Ashran portal unlocks account-wide in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, and (after you reach it) Valdrakken.

❌ If the quest isn’t showing on the board, you can always walk to the Dark Portal manually and talk to Khadgar there to pick it up directly.

How to Get to Draenor Without a Garrison

You don’t actually need a Garrison to be on Draenor. ✅ Once the Ashran portal is unlocked on your account, taking it drops you in Stormshield or Warspear with full access to the rest of the continent — no building required.

🎯 Tip: A Garrison is still worth having for the mission table, a personal bank/auction house, and old-world crafting materials, but it’s entirely optional if you just want to farm rares, transmog gear, or relive the WoD raids.
