Nazjatar is one of the most isolated zones in World of Warcraft — located deep beneath the sea with no flight path, no simple port, and no shortcut portal waiting for you in your capital city. Getting there requires completing a significant chunk of the Battle for Azeroth War Campaign first. Once unlocked, though, travel is instant via faction portals.
This guide covers how to get to Nazjatar from Stormwind, Boralus, Orgrimmar, Dazar’alor, Zandalar, Kul Tiras, and on alts — plus the only way to get there without finishing the quest chain.
Before You Go: The Nazjatar Unlock Requirements
🎯 Nazjatar is a quest-locked zone. You cannot fly, swim, or portal there on a fresh character. The zone only opens after completing a significant portion of the BfA War Campaign on that character.
Alliance Requirements
To unlock the Alliance quest Send the Fleet, you need:
- Complete the BfA intro questline to reach Boralus and earn Come Sail Away.
- Quest through Tiragarde Sound, Stormsong Valley, and Drustvar to reach Friendly with Proudmoore Admiralty, Storm’s Wake, and Order of Embers.
- Complete Uniting Kul Tiras.
- Establish all 3 Horde footholds via the Zandalar Campaign (War Table on The Wind’s Redemption in Boralus).
- Pick up Send the Fleet from Genn Greymane aboard The Wind’s Redemption, docked just south of the Sanctum of the Sages in Boralus.

Horde Requirements
To unlock the Horde quest Send the Fleet, you need:
- Complete the BfA intro questline to reach Dazar’alor and earn Welcome to Zandalar.
- Quest through Zuldazar, Nazmir, and Vol’dun to reach Friendly with Zandalari Empire, Talanji’s Expedition, and Voldunai.
- Complete Uniting Zandalar.
- Establish all 3 Alliance footholds via the Kul Tiras Campaign (War Table on The Banshee’s Wail in Dazar’alor).
- Pick up Send the Fleet from Nathanos Blightcaller aboard The Banshee’s Wail, docked in the Port of Zandalar at the southern end of Dazar’alor. ✅
| Faction | Starting NPC | Ship | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alliance | Genn Greymane | The Wind’s Redemption | South of Sanctum of the Sages, Boralus |
| Horde | Nathanos Blightcaller | The Banshee’s Wail | Port of Zandalar, Dazar’alor |
🎯 Level requirement: You must be at least level 60 to complete Uniting Kul Tiras / Uniting Zandalar and trigger Send the Fleet.
After the Unlock — How the Portal System Works
Once you complete Send the Fleet and the first few intro quests in Nazjatar itself, a permanent portal unlocks in your faction capital:
- ⚔️ Alliance: Portal appears in the Sanctum of the Sages in Boralus → lands you in Mezzamere (Waveblade Ankoan camp, western Nazjatar)
- ⚔️ Horde: Portal appears in the Hall of Ancient Paths in Dazar’alor (lower floor of The Great Seal) → lands you in Newhome (The Unshackled camp, south-central Nazjatar)
A return portal also exists in both Mezzamere and Newhome, sending you back to your capital.
⚡ You can also set your Hearthstone inside Nazjatar (at Mezzamere or Newhome innkeeper) for instant return travel.
How to Get to Nazjatar from Stormwind
Stormwind doesn’t have a direct portal to Nazjatar. The route goes through Boralus.
Via the Stormwind Portal Room → Boralus
- Go to the Stormwind Portal Room (Wizard’s Sanctum in the Mage Quarter).
- Take the portal to Boralus (Kul Tiras).
- Once in Boralus, head to the Sanctum of the Sages (portal room, northeast area of the city).
- Use the Nazjatar portal inside — takes you directly to Mezzamere.
🎯 This only works after completing the unlock questline above. If the portal isn’t visible yet, you haven’t completed the prerequisites.
How to Get to Nazjatar from Boralus
Boralus is the fastest and most direct Alliance route to Nazjatar.
Via the Sanctum of the Sages Portal
- In Boralus, go to the Sanctum of the Sages — the portal room in the northeastern part of the city.
- Look for the Nazjatar portal (it sits among the other BfA zone portals).
- Step through → you arrive in Mezzamere, the Alliance hub in western Nazjatar.

If the Portal Isn’t Showing
If you’ve left Nazjatar before finishing the intro quests or the portal isn’t visible:
- Open your Boralus map — look for a large gold arrow icon. Follow it to board a ship that takes you back to Nazjatar even mid-questline.
- Complete enough intro quests in the zone to fully unlock the permanent portal.
How to Get to Nazjatar from Orgrimmar
Orgrimmar doesn’t have a direct portal to Nazjatar. Route goes through Dazar’alor.
Via the Orgrimmar Portal Room → Dazar’alor
- Go to the Pathfinder’s Den portal room in Orgrimmar (Valley of Strength).
- Take the portal to Dazar’alor / Zuldazar.
- From the Great Seal in Dazar’alor, go to the Hall of Ancient Paths (lower floor, northeastern room).
- Use the Nazjatar portal in the corner → lands you in Newhome.
How to Get to Nazjatar from Dazar’alor
Dazar’alor is the fastest and most direct Horde route to Nazjatar.
Via the Hall of Ancient Paths
- Climb to the top of the Grand Pyramid in Dazar’alor — this is The Great Seal.
- On the lower floor, enter the Hall of Ancient Paths (northeastern room — the Horde portal room).
- The Nazjatar portal sits in its own corner, separate from the main wall of portals.
- Step through → you land in Newhome, the Horde hub in south-central Nazjatar.
If the Portal Isn’t Showing
- Open your Dazar’alor map — look for a large gold arrow on the map. Follow it to the dock location to re-board the ship to Nazjatar without completing the chain again.
- The portal only appears after completing enough of the zone’s intro quests to establish Newhome.
How to Get to Nazjatar from Zandalar / Zuldazar
Zandalar is the Horde continent in BfA, and Dazar’alor is its capital city. Getting to Nazjatar from anywhere on Zandalar means routing through Dazar’alor.
| Starting Point in Zandalar | Route |
|---|---|
| Zuldazar (zone) | Fly to Dazar’alor → Hall of Ancient Paths → Nazjatar portal |
| Nazmir | Fly north to Dazar’alor → same route |
| Vol’dun | Fly northeast to Dazar’alor → same route |
| Port of Zandalar | Walk up pyramid to Great Seal → Hall of Ancient Paths → portal |
⚡ Tip: If you’re at the Port of Zandalar and haven’t unlocked the portal yet, Nathanos Blightcaller and The Banshee’s Wail are right there — perfect starting point for the unlock questline.
How to Get to Nazjatar from Kul Tiras
Kul Tiras is the Alliance continent in BfA. Boralus is its capital and the portal hub.
| Starting Point in Kul Tiras | Route |
|---|---|
| Tiragarde Sound | Fly to Boralus → Sanctum of the Sages → Nazjatar portal |
| Stormsong Valley | Fly southwest to Boralus → same route |
| Drustvar | Fly northeast to Boralus → same route |
| Boralus Harbor | Walk to Sanctum of the Sages → portal |
⚡ Tip: If you haven’t unlocked the portal yet and are in Boralus, find Genn Greymane on The Wind’s Redemption ship just south of the Sanctum — that’s where Send the Fleet begins.
How to Get to Nazjatar Without the Quest
🎯 This is the most commonly searched topic about Nazjatar — and the answer is: there is no traditional skip. Blizzard never added an alt skip for the Nazjatar unlock chain. However, there are two workarounds:
Option 1 — Summoning Stone
If two players who are already in Nazjatar use the Summoning Stone in the zone, they can summon you directly. You will arrive in Nazjatar but the zone will be partially phased — some content and NPCs won’t be visible until you complete the intro quests.
Option 2 — Use the Gold Arrow on the Map
If you have started but not finished the intro questline (e.g., you hearthed out early), your zone is not fully unlocked. In this case:
- Alliance: Open the Boralus map — a gold arrow points to the ship departure point to Nazjatar.
- Horde: Open the Dazar’alor map — a gold arrow points to where you can re-board.
This lets you return mid-chain without repeating quests already done.
There Is No Account-Wide Skip
Unlike some expansions, BfA has no account-wide Nazjatar unlock. Every character must complete the War Campaign prerequisites independently. The fastest path on an alt is to do the questline in a focused session — the unlock chain typically takes 2–4 hours if done efficiently.

What’s in Nazjatar
Once you arrive, Nazjatar is one of BfA’s most content-rich zones:
- ⚔️ Mezzamere (Alliance hub) — quest hub, innkeeper, Waveblade Ankoan faction
- ⚔️ Newhome (Horde hub) — quest hub, innkeeper, The Unshackled faction
- 🏹 The Eternal Palace raid — entrance via a whirlpool in the central area of the zone (requires completing intro quests to access)
- ⚔️ Mechagon unlock — completing the Nazjatar intro also opens access to Mechagon
- 🎯 Rare elites throughout the zone drop transmog, pets, and Prismatic Manapearls
Flying is not available in Nazjatar — all travel is on ground mounts, though the zone has natural terrain shortcuts worth learning.
