WoW Classic Raid Entrances – Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, Ahn’Qiraj & Naxxramas

WoW Classic introduced some of the most iconic raid dungeons in MMO history. Finding the entrances and completing the attunements for Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, AQ20, AQ40, and Naxxramas is half the challenge — especially if you’re new to the game or returning after years away.

This guide covers the exact location of every Classic WoW raid entrance, how to get there, and what attunement you need before stepping inside.

Classic WoW Raid Overview

Molten Core (MC) Entrance & Attunement

Zone: Blackrock Mountain (between Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge)
Final Boss: Ragnaros

Where Is the Entrance?

Molten Core has two entrances — both inside Blackrock Mountain:

Entrance 1 (No Attunement): Deep inside the Blackrock Depths dungeon. Clear through BRD past Ambassador Flamelash and the Molten Bridge — the raid portal sits at the far end. This method requires running 5 people at a time through a long dungeon, making it impractical for a 40-man raid.

Entrance 2 (Attuned — Recommended): Talk to Lothos Riftwaker, a blood elf standing just outside the Grinding Quarry at the base of the Molten Span inside Blackrock Mountain. After completing his quest, you can jump through the window found next to Lothos to enter Molten Core directly, skipping the need to delve into Blackrock Depths.

How to Get to Blackrock Mountain

Blackrock Mountain sits on the border between Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge in the Eastern Kingdoms. Travel options:

• Alliance: Fly to Morgan’s Vigil in Burning Steppes, then ride west to the mountain
• Horde: Fly to Kargath in Badlands, ride south into Searing Gorge, then east into Blackrock Mountain

Attunement: Attunement to the Core

Getting attuned to Molten Core means completing the quest Attunement to the Core from Lothos Riftwaker in Blackrock Mountain. Completing this quest will allow you to talk with Lothos to simply be ported into Molten Core, instead of needing to run into the raid yourself.

1. Speak with Lothos Riftwaker at level 55+ to pick up the quest
2. Run through Blackrock Depths to the Molten Bridge near the raid entrance
3. Pick up the Core Fragment from the stalactite on the left of the portal
4. Return to Lothos and turn it in
5. Lothos can now teleport you directly into MC at any time

🎯 Tip: At Exalted rep, the attunement is free to complete. At Honored, you pay 60g plus materials.

Blackwing Lair (BWL) Entrance & Attunement

Zone: Blackrock Mountain (top of Blackrock Spire)
Final Boss: Nefarian

Where Is the Entrance?

Blackwing Lair is located at the very height of Blackrock Spire. You can enter the mountain from either the Burning Steppes or through Searing Gorge.

Entrance (Attuned — Recommended): Once attuned, use the Orb of Command located at the end of the right-hand corridor outside the Blackrock Spire entrance inside Blackrock Mountain. Touch the orb to zone directly into Blackwing Lair.

Entrance (No Attunement): Travel through Upper Blackrock Spire (UBRS) all the way to the end — the physical raid entrance is deep inside. This requires sending 10 players at a time through a full UBRS clear, then having the rest of the raid follow.

Attunement: Blackhand’s Command

Head to the entrance of Blackrock Spire inside Blackrock Mountain, then turn right and follow the hallway. You will see several Scarshield mobs patrolling the area, including Scarshield Quartermaster. Kill him and loot Blackhand’s Command. Right-click the item to accept the quest.

1. Find and kill Scarshield Quartermaster in the right-hand corridor outside BRS entrance
2. Loot Blackhand’s Command and right-click to accept the quest
3. Clear Upper Blackrock Spire and defeat General Drakkisath
4. Click the Orb of Ascension behind him to complete the quest
5. You can now use the Orb of Command in the corridor to zone into BWL instantly

Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj (AQ20) Entrance

Zone: Southern Silithus, Kalimdor
Final Boss: Ossirian the Unscarred

Where Is the Entrance?

No attunement required for AQ20. Finding the entrance portal to AQ20 is fairly simple considering that the main road through Silithus will lead you straight to it. If you already have the flight path for Cenarion Hold, fly there and follow the road south to Ahn’Qiraj.

After passing the wall, you’ll see the AQ20 entrance on the left, and the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj for AQ40 on the right.

How to Get to Silithus

• Easiest route: Fly to Cenarion Hold in Silithus (if you have the flight path) and ride south
• No flight path: Travel west through Tanaris into Un’Goro Crater, then take the northwest path out into Silithus at coords 29, 22

⚠️ Prerequisite: Both AQ raids are only accessible after your server has completed the massive world event The Gates of Ahn’Qiraj. The Scarab Wall must be opened before anyone can enter.

Temple of Ahn’Qiraj (AQ40) Entrance

Zone: Southern Silithus, Kalimdor
Final Boss: C’Thun

Where Is the Entrance?

Same road as AQ20 — travel south through Silithus past Cenarion Hold. Make sure to ignore the first entrance you see because this will lead to AQ20. Instead, follow the path to the right and continue all the way up until you find another raid entrance.

No attunement is required for AQ40 either. Once the Gates are open, walk through the Scarab Wall, take the right path, and enter the portal to the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj.

🎯 Remember: AQ mounts like the Black Qiraji Battle Tank can only be used inside the raid — they don’t work in the open world.

Naxxramas (Naxx) Entrance & Attunement

Zone: Eastern Plaguelands, Eastern Kingdoms (floating above Plaguewood)
Final Boss: Kel’Thuzad

Where Is the Entrance?

The Naxxramas raid entrance is in the Eastern Plaguelands, inside Plaguewood. You’ll need to complete Argent Dawn attunement before you can use the teleporter spire. First, fly to Light’s Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands.

From Light’s Hope Chapel, ride north into Plaguewood. The teleport spire sits at approximately coordinates 39, 26. Step onto the runic circle at the center of the spire to teleport up into the necropolis.

Attunement: The Dread Citadel – Naxxramas

Unlike MC and BWL, Naxxramas requires attunement — you cannot enter without it.

Go to Light’s Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands and accept the quest The Dread Citadel – Naxxramas from Archmage Angela Dosantos. You can finish the quest with at least Honored reputation with the Argent Dawn, but it comes at a cost. The price decreases as your reputation level rises.

Attunement Cost by Reputation

⚡ Tip: Farm Argent Dawn rep in Scholomance, Stratholme, and through Eastern Plaguelands quests. Reaching Exalted before Phase 6 saves you 60g and three rare crafting materials.
