Before You Go: Requirements to Unlock Maldraxxus
Maldraxxus isn’t available the moment you arrive in Oribos. As the second leveling zone in Shadowlands, its portal only appears once you’ve made progress in the first one.
- Complete Shadowlands: A Chilling Summons and the Maw intro scenario to reach Oribos for the first time.
- Finish enough of the Bastion storyline to trigger the Threads of Fate breadcrumb.
- Speak with Tal-Inara in Oribos and accept the Maldraxxus scouting map quest — this permanently opens the Gate to Maldraxxus portal for your character.
🎯 Tip: Once unlocked, the Maldraxxus portal stays open on that character forever, even if you switch covenants later.
How to Get to Maldraxxus from Oribos
This is the main route for every player, regardless of faction.
- From the Ring of Fates (main level of Oribos), step onto one of the transport runes in the center to reach the Ring of Transference above.
- Look for the Gate to Maldraxxus portal at coordinates
/way 59.7, 36.4. - Step through — you’ll land near the Maldraxxus questing hub automatically.
🎯 Tip: If you don’t see the portal, you haven’t started the Maldraxxus storyline yet (see requirements above).
How to Get to Maldraxxus from Orgrimmar
- Enter the Orgrimmar Portal Room (Pathfinder’s Den, just inside the main gate).
- Use the Portal to Oribos (
/way 52, 35). - Once in Oribos, follow the Gate to Maldraxxus route above.
How to Get to Maldraxxus from Stormwind
- Head to the Stormwind Portal Room in the Mage Tower (Wizard’s Sanctum), Mage Quarter.
- Take the left fork to find the Portal to Oribos on the right wall.
- From Oribos, use the Gate to Maldraxxus on the Ring of Transference.
How to Get to Maldraxxus from Bastion
If you’re still questing in Bastion when the Maldraxxus breadcrumb triggers:
- Travel to the Vestibule of Eternity in southwestern Bastion.
- Use the Portal to Oribos located there.
- From Oribos, take the Gate to Maldraxxus as described above.
How to Get to Maldraxxus from the Necrolord Sanctum (Seat of the Primus)
Once you’ve joined the Necrolord Covenant, getting around is much faster:
- From the Seat of the Primus, mount up and ride to the Bleak Redoubt portal hub inside Maldraxxus.
- Use the Bone Deathgate network once unlocked through Sanctum upgrades — this fast-travels you between major points of the zone, including back toward Oribos.
- The Bleak Redoubt also holds the return Portal to Oribos, so you can hop back and forth without leaving the zone.
🎯 Tip: Bone Deathgates require Anima and Renown investment at the Seat of the Primus — worth prioritizing early since Maldraxxus is one of the larger Shadowlands zones.
Via Mage Portal or Teleport
Mages don’t have a dedicated Maldraxxus spell, but the two-step method is nearly as fast:
- Cast or use Portal: Oribos or Teleport: Oribos.
- From Oribos, take the Gate to Maldraxxus on the Ring of Transference.
