TBC Classic Transmutation Master Alchemy Guide

If you’re looking for the most passive and consistent gold-making strategy in TBC Classic Anniversary, Transmutation Master is the specialization for you. One button press per day, and you’re generating value — no AH flipping required, no farming routes memorized. This guide covers everything: how to get the specialization, which transmutes to use daily, and how to maximize your profits in 2026.

What Is Transmutation Master?

Transmutation Master is one of three Alchemy specializations available in TBC Classic. Once you have it, every transmute you perform has a chance to produce 1 to 4 bonus items for free — using the exact same materials as a single craft. On average, this works out to roughly a 17% increase in output over time. For a profession built around daily cooldowns, that’s a meaningful edge.

The other two specializations are Elixir Master and Potion Master. Each one focuses on a different type of craft. Transmutation Master specifically boosts transmutes — and nothing else.

Requirements

Before you can pick up the quest, make sure you meet both of these conditions:

  • ✅ Character level 68 or higher
  • ✅ Alchemy skill of 325 or higher

How to Become a Transmutation Master

The quest chain is short but a bit expensive — especially early in a fresh economy. Here’s the step-by-step:

Step 1 — Pick Up the Quest in Hellfire Peninsula

Head to your faction’s Alchemy trainer in Hellfire Peninsula:

  • ⚔️ Alliance: Alchemist Gribble in Honor Hold (coords: 53.8, 65.8)
  • ⚔️ Horde: Apothecary Antonivich in Thrallmar (coords: 53.0, 35.6)

Accept the first part of the Master of Transmutation quest from them.

Step 2 — Travel to Netherstorm

Find Zarevhi at the Stormspire in Netherstorm (coords: 44.0, 36.6). Hand in the first part of the quest, then pick up part two from the same NPC.

Step 3 — Gather 4x Primal Might

This is where the cost comes in. Zarevhi requires you to bring him 4x Primal Might. Each Primal Might is itself crafted via transmute (requires Alchemy 350) from:

You can craft them yourself or buy them off the Auction House. Either way, expect this to be the most expensive of the three specialization quests — especially at the start of a fresh TBC Anniversary phase.

🎯 Tip: If you’re just starting out, it’s often smarter to get Potion Master first (much cheaper), then switch to Transmutation Master later by paying 150g to your current trainer.

Step 4 — Turn In and You’re Done

Hand the 4 Primal Mights to Zarevhi and you’ll receive the Transmutation Master specialization. That’s it.

Switching Specializations

Changed your mind? No problem. Just find the NPC where you learned your current specialization, pay 150g to unlearn it, then visit Zarevhi directly to pick up Transmutation Master — no quest required the second time around.

Best Daily Transmutes for Gold

Here’s where the real value is. Your daily transmute cooldown is a low-effort, reliable income stream. These are the three best options in TBC Classic Anniversary 2026:

Transmute Materials Why It’s Good
Primal Might 1x each Primal (Earth, Water, Air, Fire, Mana) High demand for crafted gear, limited supply from cooldown
Skyfire Diamond 3x Star Ruby, 2x Primal Fire, 2x Primal Air Raider BiS meta gem, consistent demand every phase
Earthstorm Diamond 3x Deep Peridot, 3x Shadow Draenite, 3x Golden Draenite, 2x Primal Earth, 2x Primal Water Unlockable at level 60, great for alts, steady raider demand

🎯 Pro tip: Don’t want to spend gold on mats every day? Sell your cooldown instead. Advertise in Trade chat and let someone else supply the Primal Mights — you pocket a fee for just pressing one button. No AH risk, no price crashes.

Primal-to-Primal Transmutes

In addition to the daily Primal Might cooldown, Transmutation Masters can also flip one type of Primal into another. Most of these are locked behind reputation (Revered), so they’re not immediately available. The most useful one is Primal Earth → Primal Water, available from Sporeggar at Revered — Water tends to sell for more, making this a solid arbitrage whenever market prices allow.

Is Transmutation Master Worth It?

If you want to make gold with minimal daily effort, yes — this is the specialization for you. Primal Might is used in high-end crafting recipes and kept artificially scarce by the cooldown, which means supply stays controlled and prices hold up even in populated economies. The 17% average bonus proc rate means real extra income over weeks and months of play.

That said, if your guild is running lots of raids and you’re crafting huge volumes of flasks or potions, Elixir Master or Potion Master might pull ahead in raw gold value. Check what’s moving on your realm’s Auction House before committing — and remember, switching costs only 150g if you change your mind.

FAQ

What level do I need to be to become a Transmutation Master?

You need to be at least level 68 and have an Alchemy skill of 325 or higher before you can start the quest.

How much does the Transmutation Master quest cost?

It requires 4x Primal Might, each of which is crafted from 5 different Primals. In Phase 1 of TBC Anniversary 2026, this can run anywhere from a few hundred to over 1,000 gold depending on your server’s economy. It’s the most expensive of the three Alchemy specializations.

Can I switch from Transmutation Master to another specialization?

Yes. Pay 150g to Zarevhi in the Stormspire to unlearn the specialization, then visit the trainer for Elixir Master (Lorokeem in Shattrath) or Potion Master (Lauranna Thar’well in Zangarmarsh) to switch. You don’t need to redo the quest for the new specialization.

What does the Transmutation Master proc actually do?

Each transmute has a chance to produce 1 to 4 bonus items at no extra material cost. The proc doesn’t happen every time, but averaged out over many crafts, you’ll produce roughly 17% more output than a non-specialized alchemist.

Is Transmutation Master good for alts?

Very much so. Earthstorm Diamond transmutes are available from level 60 for under 30 gold setup cost, making it one of the best passive daily income options for alt characters. Running multiple alts with this setup compounds into significant weekly gold.
