How to get to Undercity depends heavily on whether you’re playing Retail or Classic, since the city’s condition is very different between the two. In Retail, Undercity has been left in ruins since the Battle for Azeroth’s Battle for the Undercity, while Classic still has the city standing as the Forsaken’s fully functional capital. This guide covers both, plus the fastest routes from Orgrimmar, Stormwind, and Dornogal. 🎯
Where Is Undercity?
Undercity sits beneath the ruined city of Lordaeron in Tirisfal Glades, on the northern coast of the Eastern Kingdoms. It was originally the Forsaken’s racial capital and the starting city for Undead characters.
Undercity in Retail vs. Classic
This is the most important thing to know before you travel:
- 🎯 Retail: Since the Battle for the Undercity storyline in Battle for Azeroth, the city has been left blighted and largely uninhabitable. Tirisfal Glades itself returned to Forsaken control after the Fourth War, but Undercity remains in ruins. The old elevator entrance from the Ruins of Lordaeron courtyard was also removed in patch 9.2.5.
- ✅ Classic: Undercity is fully intact and functions as the normal Forsaken capital, complete with trainers, an auction house, and a bank.
This guide focuses on Retail routes first, with a Classic section further down.
How to Get to Undercity from Orgrimmar (Retail)
- 1️⃣ Head to the zeppelin towers in the center of Orgrimmar.
- 2️⃣ Climb to the top of the eastern zeppelin tower.
- 3️⃣ Use the Portal to Undercity there.
- ⚡ This portal is one-way and drops you outside the ruined Undercity in the current-timeline Tirisfal Glades — there’s no return portal from that spot, so plan to fly or hearth back.

How to Get to Undercity from Dornogal (Retail)
Dornogal’s portal room now includes its own Portal to Undercity alongside the portals to Stormwind and Orgrimmar. Use it for a direct route without backtracking to Orgrimmar first.
How to Get to Undercity from Stormwind (Alliance, Retail)
There’s no direct portal for Alliance characters. Instead:
- 1️⃣ Travel to Tirisfal Glades in the Eastern Kingdoms (fly in from a neighboring zone like Silverpine Forest, or via a flight path once discovered).
- 2️⃣ Head to the Sewers entrance, located west of the main Ruins of Lordaeron gate, near the Scarlet Watchtower.
- 3️⃣ This was historically the entrance the Alliance used during the Battle for the Undercity, and it remains the main way in for non-Forsaken characters.
How to Get to Undercity in Classic WoW
- ✅ From Orgrimmar, take the zeppelin at the tower south of Brill’s Inn area — the route runs between Orgrimmar, Grom’gol Base Camp, and Undercity.
- ✅ From within Tirisfal Glades, simply enter through the main gate at the Ruins of Lordaeron and take the elevator down, or use the Sewers entrance to the west.
- ✅ Undercity has its own flight master, so once discovered you can fly there directly from other Horde flight points.
Seeing the Old Undercity with Zidormi
Players curious about the pre-war version of the city can talk to Zidormi, a Bronze Dragonflight NPC stationed near the Ruins of Lordaeron entrance (Horde) or the Undercity Sewers entrance (Alliance):
- 🎯 Zidormi can toggle your personal phase to show Undercity as it looked before the Battle for the Undercity.
- ⚠️ This option only appears if your character has completed the relevant Battle for Azeroth war campaign questline through to “The Battle for the Undercity.”
Quick Reference: Routes to Undercity
| Starting Point | Method | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Orgrimmar (Retail) | Zeppelin tower portal | One-way, no return portal |
| Dornogal (Retail) | Portal to Undercity in the portal room | Direct route, no backtracking needed |
| Stormwind (Retail) | Fly to Tirisfal Glades, enter via the Sewers | No direct Alliance portal |
| Orgrimmar (Classic) | Zeppelin to Undercity | Same zeppelin route as Grom’gol |
| Tirisfal Glades (Classic) | Main gate elevator or Sewers entrance | Both lead into the city proper |
Tips for Getting to Undercity Faster
- ⚡ Set your Hearthstone to Dornogal or Orgrimmar if you’ll be visiting Undercity’s Retail ruins repeatedly, since the zeppelin portal is one-way.
- 🎯 Alliance characters going for achievements or old quest content should route through the Sewers, since it’s the only reliable non-Forsaken entrance.
- ✅ If you can’t find Zidormi near the entrances, make sure your character has actually completed the Battle for the Undercity war campaign quests first.
