Located in the northwestern corner of Thaldraszus, it serves as the main hub for all four Dragon Isles zones — The Waking Shores, Ohn’ahran Plains, The Azure Span, and Thaldraszus itself. Whether you’re a fresh adventurer or a returning player jumping back in from Khaz Algar or Oribos, this guide covers every method to reach the Dragon Isles.

Before you can use most portals to Valdrakken, you’ll need to complete the quest To Valdrakken, which becomes available after progressing through the main story in The Waking Shores, Ohn’ahran Plains, and The Azure Span.

How to Get to Valdrakken from Stormwind (Alliance)

Alliance players have two options when traveling to the Dragon Isles from Stormwind: the portal in the Wizard’s Sanctum (fastest) or the ship from Stormwind Harbor (best for first-timers).

How to Get to Dragon Isles via Portal from Stormwind

Head to the Mage Quarter in Stormwind and climb the Wizard’s Sanctum tower. At the top, you’ll find the Portal Room. Walk straight into the main room — don’t take the left stairs — and look for the Valdrakken portal on the left side, between the portals to Silvermoon City and Oribos.

⚡ Prerequisite: You must have completed the quest To Valdrakken to activate this portal.

How to Get to the Waking Shores via Ship from Stormwind

Go to Stormwind Harbor (northwest district of the city) and head to the southernmost dock. Board the ship called Rugged Dragonscale — it’s crewed by Chrovo and arrives every ~5 minutes. It deposits you at the Wild Coast of The Waking Shores, right near Wingrest Embassy to the south. Note: the Rugged Dragonscale docks at the same spot as the Boralus boat — look for dracthyr crew to tell them apart.

How to Get to Valdrakken from Orgrimmar (Horde)

Horde players also have two options: the portal in the Pathfinder’s Den or the Defiant Dragonscale zeppelin that departs south of Orgrimmar.

How to Get to Dragon Isles via Portal from Orgrimmar

Enter Orgrimmar through the main gate heading south into Durotar. The Pathfinder’s Den (Orgrimmar Portal Room) is in the eastern wall of that tunnel — look for a doorway on your left. Walk straight into the main room. The Valdrakken portal is on the left side, positioned between the portals to Silvermoon City and Oribos.

How to Get to the Waking Shores via Zeppelin from Orgrimmar

Exit Orgrimmar and head south toward Bladefist Bay (just past Skull Rock in Durotar). The zeppelin tower there has the Defiant Dragonscale docking on the southern platform. Speak to Skarukaru to check wait time (~5 minutes per cycle). It flies you directly to Wingrest Embassy in The Waking Shores.

How to Get to Valdrakken from Dornogal (The War Within)

If you’re starting from Dornogal in Khaz Algar, there’s no direct portal between the two capitals. Use one of these routes:

• 🌀 Use the portal to Stormwind or Orgrimmar from Foundation Hall inside Dornogal, then take the Valdrakken portal from your faction’s portal room.
• ✨ Ask a Mage to open a Portal: Valdrakken for you.
• 🐉 If you’re already on the Dragon Isles, simply fly using Skyriding.

There is currently no direct portal from Dornogal to Valdrakken added to the game.

How to Get to Dragon Isles from Dalaran (Legion)

The Legion version of Dalaran — floating above the Broken Isles — does not have a direct portal to the Dragon Isles. However, from Dalaran you can:

• 🌀 Use the portal to Stormwind or Orgrimmar inside Dalaran, then take the Valdrakken portal from your faction’s hub.
• ✨ If you’re a Mage, use Teleport: Valdrakken directly.

Note: Dalaran was later destroyed during the events of The War Within, so the WotLK version of Dalaran floating above Northrend also has no direct Dragon Isles portal — same workaround applies.

How to Get to Valdrakken from Silvermoon City

Silvermoon City has no portal directly to the Dragon Isles. The fastest route from there is:

1. Take the Orb of Translocation inside Silvermoon to reach the Undercity area (Ruins of Lordaeron).
2. From the nearby zeppelin tower, fly to Orgrimmar.
3. Use the Orgrimmar Portal Room to access Valdrakken.

Alternatively, any Mage portal to Valdrakken will work instantly from Silvermoon.

How to Get to Valdrakken from the Emerald Dream

The Emerald Dream is directly connected to the Dragon Isles — it’s a separate realm accessible via a gateway in Ohn’ahran Plains (at Ancient Bough off the coast) or through the portal in Valdrakken itself (above the bank, unlocked by completing the patch 10.2 intro quest Call of the Dream).

🐉 From inside the Emerald Dream, you can simply fly back through the gateway to Ohn’ahran Plains and then ride to Valdrakken.

🌿 Druids can use Dreamwalk to teleport to Amirdrassil in the Emerald Dream from anywhere — making it the easiest class-specific travel method to the Dragon Isles region.

How to Get to Dragon Isles from the Main Quest (First Visit)

If you’ve never been to the Dragon Isles before, the quest chain is your entry point. Here’s how it works by faction:

Alliance — Starting the Dragonflight Campaign

1. Reach at least level 58 (recommended level 60).
2. In Stormwind, pick up the quest from Toddy Whiskers near the command board — the quest is called To the Dragon Isles!
3. Head to Stormwind Harbor’s southernmost dock and board the Rugged Dragonscale.
4. You’ll arrive at the Wild Coast of The Waking Shores and be directed south to Wingrest Embassy.

Horde — Starting the Dragonflight Campaign

1. In Orgrimmar, pick up the quest from Naleidea Rivergleam — the quest is To the Dragon Isles!
2. Head south of Orgrimmar to the zeppelin tower at Bladefist Bay.
3. Board the Defiant Dragonscale — it also docks at Wingrest Embassy on the Waking Shores.

🎯 After completing the quests in Waking Shores → Ohn’ahran Plains → Azure Span, you’ll reach Thaldraszus and unlock the quest To Valdrakken, which opens the permanent portals in your faction’s capital.

How to Get to Valdrakken from Wingrest Embassy

Wingrest Embassy is the first major hub you reach on the Dragon Isles — it sits on The Waking Shores just south of where the ship/zeppelin drops you off. From there, getting to Valdrakken requires progressing through the zones:

• ✅ Complete main quests in The Waking Shores → move to Ohn’ahran Plains
• ✅ Complete Ohn’ahran Plains → move to The Azure Span
• ✅ Complete The Azure Span → move to Thaldraszus and reach Valdrakken

🐉 However, once you’ve unlocked Skyriding at the Ruby Lifeshrine early in your Waking Shores journey, you can actually fly directly to Valdrakken without following the quest chain — it’s not locked behind a story gate.

How to Get to Valdrakken from Ruby Lifeshrine

The Ruby Lifeshrine is located in The Waking Shores and is where you unlock Skyriding (Dragonriding) early in the Dragonflight campaign. Once you have a drake, Valdrakken is visible in the distance. Simply fly northwest through the Dragon Isles toward Thaldraszus — Valdrakken sits in the zone’s northwestern corner. Use Ctrl + Left Click on your world map to drop a waypoint if needed.

How to Get to Valdrakken from The Waking Shores

The Waking Shores is the entry zone of the Dragon Isles. Once you’ve unlocked Skyriding, you can fly directly to Valdrakken. Alternatively:

• 🗺️ Use the Dragon Isles flightmaster network — once you’ve discovered the flightmaster in Valdrakken, you can fly there from any flightmaster on the Isles.
• 🐉 Fly northwest from Waking Shores through Ohn’ahran Plains into Thaldraszus.

How to Get to Valdrakken from Amirdrassil

Amirdrassil is located in the Emerald Dream, which is connected to Ohn’ahran Plains. From Amirdrassil, head through the Ancient Bough gateway back into Ohn’ahran Plains, then fly northeast into Thaldraszus to reach Valdrakken.

Players in Dornogal or anywhere else in Khaz Algar can return to the Dragon Isles by:

• ✨ Using a Mage portal or teleport to Valdrakken directly.
• 🌿 As a Druid, using Dreamwalk to reach Amirdrassil, then flying to Valdrakken from there.

How to Get to Dragon Isles When There Is No Portal Available

If your portal is locked (hasn’t been unlocked yet) or you’re on a fresh alt, here are your options:

• 🚢 Take the ship or zeppelin — Rugged Dragonscale from Stormwind Harbor (Alliance) or Defiant Dragonscale from south of Orgrimmar (Horde). These are always available regardless of quest progress.
• ✨ Ask a Mage to create a Portal: Valdrakken. Trade chat in Stormwind or Orgrimmar usually has someone offering portals for a small tip.
• 🌿 If you play a Druid, Dreamwalk lands you in the Emerald Dream next to Amirdrassil — close enough to fly to Valdrakken.

Where Is Valdrakken Located on the Dragon Isles?

Valdrakken sits in the northwestern corner of Thaldraszus, near the center of the Dragon Isles map. If you approach from The Waking Shores or Ohn’ahran Plains, fly northeast. Coming from Azure Span, cross through Misty Canyon to the east. On foot or by mount, the city is accessible via Shadow Pass in Thaldraszus — look for a bridge around coordinates 41, 67 that leads into the city gates.

The city is neutral — no cross-faction PvP inside. Both Alliance and Horde characters use the same hub.
