🗺️ Important: Khaz Algar is not physically connected to the rest of Azeroth — you cannot fly or swim there. All travel requires portals, Mage teleportation, or completing the introductory questline. Dalaran was destroyed during the TWW intro scenario and can no longer be used as a gateway.

How to Get to Dornogal for the First Time (Main Questline)

The very first trip to Khaz Algar is done through a scripted scenario — you cannot simply portal there from scratch. Here is the exact questline path:

How to Get to Khaz Algar from the Questline (Step by Step)

1. Head to your capital city — Stormwind (Alliance) or Orgrimmar (Horde). Pick up the pre-expansion quest The War Within from Jaina Proudmoore (Alliance) or Thrall (Horde). This sends you to Silithus — use the Caverns of Time portal in your city’s portal room.
2. Complete the Silithus intro quests, then make your way to Dalaran (Legion) floating above the Broken Isles. Use the Azsuna portal in your capital’s portal room, or a Dalaran Hearthstone toy if you have one.
3. In Dalaran, find Moira Thaurissan in the Portrait Room of the Chamber of the Guardian. Pick up Slept Like a Rock.
4. Complete Citizens of Dalaran, Meet the Team, and Strengthen the Wards given by Archmage Khadgar and Brann Bronzebeard.
5. Accept the quest To Khaz Algar! from Khadgar. This triggers the Dalaran invasion scenario where Xal’atath destroys Dalaran and you crash-land on the shores of the Isle of Dorn.

1. Go to the Mage Quarter and climb the Wizard’s Sanctum tower.
2. Enter the Portal Room at the top. Walk into the main room, then take the stairs in the middle up to the second chamber.
3. The Dornogal portal is in the back of that upper room, just to the right after coming up the stairs.

🎯 Tip: The Dornogal portal is in the expanded second chamber — it’s easy to miss if you only look in the main ground-floor hall.

How to Get to Dornogal from Orgrimmar (Horde)

The Horde portal to Dornogal is also available after finishing the TWW questline on any character, but it’s in an unusual location in the Orgrimmar Portal Room.

1. Enter Orgrimmar through the main gate heading south.
2. Look for the Pathfinder’s Den doorway on your left (the Portal Room).
3. Do not walk into the main portal room. Instead, take the left staircase down to the lower level.

How to Get to Dornogal from Dalaran

This depends on which Dalaran you mean — the city was destroyed during the TWW intro:

From Legion Dalaran (Broken Isles)

Dalaran above the Broken Isles was destroyed by Xal’atath during the TWW intro and no longer exists as a hub. If you still see it on the map, it’s a phased version visible only to characters who haven’t completed the intro scenario yet. You cannot use the old Dalaran as a gateway to Dornogal.

Instead: use the portal to Stormwind or Orgrimmar from Dalaran (while it still exists in your phase), then take the Dornogal portal from your capital’s portal room.

From WotLK Dalaran (Northrend)

The WotLK Dalaran floating above Northrend is unaffected and still exists. From there:

Azj-Kahet is the deepest zone of Khaz Algar. After completing the full TWW campaign, a portal opens between The Fissure in Dornogal and The Weaver’s Lair in Azj-Kahet — making travel between the two instant.

How to Get to Dornogal from Revendreth / Oribos (Shadowlands)

Oribos and Revendreth in the Shadowlands have no direct connection to Khaz Algar. From either location:
