Zandalar and Kul Tiras are the two main continents of the Battle for Azeroth (BfA) expansion. Zandalar is the Horde’s stronghold, anchored by the golden city of Dazar’alor. Kul Tiras belongs to the Alliance, with Boralus as its capital. Whether you’re heading there for the first time or returning on an alt, this guide covers every method to reach both continents.
Quick Overview: Zandalar vs Kul Tiras
| Continent | Faction | Capital City | Expansion |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zandalar | 🔴 Horde (primary) | Dazar’alor | Battle for Azeroth |
| Kul Tiras | 🔵 Alliance (primary) | Boralus | Battle for Azeroth |
⚡ First time visiting? Both continents require a short intro quest chain on your first visit. Alts can skip if the scenario was done on another character on your account.
How to Get to Zandalar (Horde)
First Time: Intro Quest Chain
If this is your first visit to Zandalar on your account, you’ll need to start the BfA intro in Orgrimmar.
- Head to the Valley of Strength in Orgrimmar
- Find the Warchief’s Herald NPC just outside the Warchief’s hut and accept the opening BfA quest
- Follow the linear quest chain — you’ll go straight into a cutscene with Sylvanas inside the hut
- Complete the scenario and you’ll arrive in Dazar’alor at the end
✅ Once done on any character, all alts on your account can skip this scenario.
Returning / Alt Characters
Method 1 — Orgrimmar Portal Room (Fastest)
The Orgrimmar portal room, the Pathfinder’s Den, is through the main gate and down the staircase on the left. Walk straight down the main corridor and use the portal to Dazar’alor.

⚠️ As of recent patches, this portal drops you at the harbour rather than the portal room inside the city. You’ll need to run up to Dazar’alor from there.
Method 2 — Boat from Echo Isles
There’s a boat dock south of Orgrimmar at the Echo Isles that sails directly to Dazar’alor. Speak to the dockmaster for an ETA if the boat isn’t present.
Method 3 — Mage Portal / Teleport
Ask a Mage for Portal: Dazar’alor. Mages learn this from Rundok in the Cleft of Shadows in Orgrimmar. For personal travel, Mages can use Teleport: Dazar’alor to go there instantly.
How to Get to Kul Tiras (Alliance)
First Time: Intro Quest Chain
- Go to the Trade District in Stormwind
- Speak to the guard near the Hero’s Call Board to accept Battle for Azeroth: Tides of War
- Attend the war council at Stormwind Keep
- Head to Stormwind Harbour and meet Lady Jaina Proudmoore at the docks
- Complete the intro scenario — at the end you’ll arrive in Boralus and unlock the portal room

✅ On alts, choose the dialogue option “I’ve heard this tale before” when speaking to Jaina at the harbour to skip the scenario entirely.
Returning / Alt Characters
Method 1 — Stormwind Portal Room (Fastest)
Head to the Mage District in Stormwind, enter the portal tower through the blue shimmering gateway, and use the portal to Boralus.
Method 2 — Boat from Stormwind
A ship runs from the Stormwind docks directly to Boralus. Find the BfA vessel on the southeastern side of the docks.
Method 3 — Mage Portal / Teleport
Ask a Mage for Portal: Boralus. Mages learn this from the Portal Trainer Azunla in the Old Town district of Stormwind. For personal travel, Mages use Teleport: Boralus.
How Horde Gets to Kul Tiras
Kul Tiras is Alliance territory, so Horde players need to advance the BfA War Campaign.
- Complete the Zandalar intro and arrive in Dazar’alor
- Take the flight path to the Port of Zandalar (bottom of Zuldazar)
- Board The Banshee’s Wail ship at the dock
- Speak to Nathanos Blightcaller to accept Breaking Kul Tiran Will
- Choose a foothold zone (Tiragarde Sound, Drustvar, or Stormsong Valley)
- Speak to Dread-Admiral Tattersail at the helm to set sail

⚠️ There is no direct portal to Kul Tiras from Orgrimmar. This War Campaign ship is the only Horde route to Kul Tiras.
How Alliance Gets to Zandalar
Alliance can only reach Zandalar by advancing the War Campaign out of Boralus.
- After arriving in Boralus, find The Wind’s Redemption ship docked just outside
- Board it and speak to Halford Wyrmbane to start The War Campaign
- Use the campaign table to choose a foothold in Zandalar (Zuldazar, Nazmir, or Vol’dun)
- Complete the foothold quest to unlock travel to that zone

Once footholds are established, portals to each unlocked Zandalar zone become available inside Boralus.

🎯 Tips & Notes
- Level requirement: BfA content scales, but aim for at least level 35 for a smooth experience.
- Alt skip: Completing the intro on any character unlocks the skip dialogue for all alts on your account.
- Flying: Requires the Azeroth Pathfinder, Part Two achievement to fly in Zandalar and Kul Tiras.
- Mechagon: Requires completing the Nazjatar intro quest chain (patch 8.2) before you can access it. See our guide to getting to Mechagon.
- Nazjatar: Also locked behind the War Campaign. See our guide to getting to Nazjatar for details.
- Anyport boat: A harbour master boat in Anyport, Drustvar (Kul Tiras) runs to Zandalar — a useful cross-route shortcut once you’re established in Kul Tiras.
