Uldum is WoW’s ancient titan desert on the southern coast of Kalimdor, introduced in Cataclysm and home to Halls of Origination, Lost City of the Tol’vir, and the Throne of the Four Winds raid. Whether you’re heading there to level, farm transmog, or run the N’Zoth assault content, this guide covers every way to reach Uldum — including the fast Earthshrine portals, the overland route through Thousand Needles, and the quest chain method for first-timers in Cataclysm Classic and Retail WoW.
How to Get to Uldum from Orgrimmar (Horde)
Method 1 — Western Earthshrine Portal (Fastest)
The quickest Horde route is the Uldum portal in the Western Earthshrine, located in Orgrimmar’s Valley of Wisdom. Look for the large circular pool surrounded by Cataclysm zone portals — the Uldum portal has Egyptian-style stonework around it and is hard to miss. It drops you directly into Ramkahen in northwestern Uldum.

- 📍 Location: Western Earthshrine, Valley of Wisdom, Orgrimmar
- ✅ Always available in Retail WoW — no quest needed
- ⚠️ In Cataclysm Classic: must complete Escape From the Lost City first to unlock
- ⚠️ No return portal — use Hearthstone or a Mage portal to get back
Method 2 — Warchief’s Command Board Quest Chain
For a first-time visit in Cataclysm Classic before the portal is unlocked, pick up Warchief’s Command: Uldum! from the Command Board in the Valley of Strength (coordinates 49, 76), then head to Thistleshrub Valley in Tanaris and speak to Adarrah to start the escort chain into Uldum.

How to Get to Uldum from Stormwind (Alliance)
Method 1 — Eastern Earthshrine Portal (Fastest)
Alliance players use the Eastern Earthshrine northwest of Stormwind Keep, next to the small lake. The Uldum portal is among the other Cataclysm zone portals and sends you straight to Ramkahen.

- 📍 Location: Eastern Earthshrine, northwest of Stormwind Keep
- ✅ Always available in Retail WoW — no quest needed
- ⚠️ In Cataclysm Classic: unlocked after completing Escape From the Lost City
- ⚠️ No return portal from Uldum
Method 2 — Hero’s Call Board Quest Chain
On your first visit in Cataclysm Classic, pick up Hero’s Call: Uldum! from the Hero’s Call Board in Stormwind’s Trade District (coordinates 32, 71). This sends you to Thistleshrub Valley in Tanaris where Adarrah and her caravan wait at the stone gateway into Uldum.
How to Get to Uldum from Thousand Needles (Overland Route)
This is the classic overland path — useful if you’re already questing in Thousand Needles or nearby zones and don’t have the portal unlocked yet.
- Start at Thousand Needles, heading to Fizzle and Pozzik’s Speedbarge on the Shimmering Deep.
- From the Speedbarge, swim or fly south through the flooded canyon toward the mountain pass at the southern edge of Thousand Needles.
- Follow the pass into Tanaris — Gadgetzan will be just ahead after crossing over.
- From Gadgetzan, fly or ride southwest to Thistleshrub Valley in western Tanaris.
- At Thistleshrub Valley, you’ll find a large stone gateway — this is the secondary overland entrance to Uldum. Speak to Adarrah here to begin the intro quest chain, or simply ride through if you’ve already done it.
🎯 Tip: You can also reach Tanaris faster via the portal in Dalaran’s Violet Citadel to the Caverns of Time, then fly west to Thistleshrub Valley.
How to Get to Uldum via the Goblin Camp (Land’s End Beach)
There’s a lesser-known coastal entry point on the eastern edge of Uldum called Land’s End Beach, where the mountains collapsed after the Cataclysm and created a direct connection between Tanaris and Uldum along the shoreline.

- 📍 From Tanaris, hug the eastern coastline southward from the Steamwheedle Port area.
- You’ll pass a small Alliance gnome camp (Steelspark Station) and then reach a stranded Bilgewater Cartel goblin camp further south on the beach.
- Keep riding south along the beach — the mountain barrier ends and you’ll enter Uldum from the northeastern corner near Kartut’s Comb.
🎯 This coastal beach path is a solid no-portal, no-quest alternative when you just need to enter the zone quickly from Tanaris without completing the intro chain.
How to Get to Uldum in Retail WoW (Midnight)
In Retail, getting to Uldum is simple. Both the Western Earthshrine in Orgrimmar and the Eastern Earthshrine in Stormwind have permanent, always-open Uldum portals — no quest unlock required. This makes Uldum one of the easiest legacy zones to access for transmog farming, rare hunting (Madexx the rare scorpid is a popular target), or completing old achievements.
If you prefer flying, Uldum sits on the southern coast of Kalimdor — fly from Orgrimmar southwest past Un’Goro Crater or south through Thousand Needles and Tanaris if you enjoy the scenic route.

About Uldum
Uldum is a titan-constructed desert zone in southern Kalimdor, bordered by Un’Goro Crater to the north, Tanaris to the east, and Silithus to the northwest. Designed for level 83–84 players in Cataclysm Classic, it features two major dungeon instances — Halls of Origination and Lost City of the Tol’vir — plus the Throne of the Four Winds raid in the skies to the south. The zone’s questline follows two parallel stories: the conflict between the Ramkahen and Neferset tol’vir, and a hilarious Indiana Jones-inspired adventure with Harrison Jones.
