Winterspring is a frozen valley in northeastern Kalimdor, home to the goblin trading post of Everlook, the blue dragonflight’s lair at Mazthoril, and the classic Wintersaber reputation grind. Getting there looks very different depending on whether you’re leveling through Classic the old-fashioned way or flying in on a max-level Retail character. This guide covers both.

Winterspring shares its only ground entrance with Moonglade, and both are guarded by the Timbermaw Tribe of furbolgs:
- Level your character up through Felwood and pick up the Timbermaw Hold starting quests, or simply grind Deadwood Furbolgs, until you reach at least Unfriendly reputation with the Timbermaw.
- Head to the hold entrance in the northeastern tip of Felwood.
- Inside the tunnel, take the north fork for Moonglade or the east/southeast fork for Winterspring.
- Once through, you’ll pop out into Winterspring near Starfall Village
Classic: The Rogue/Mage Shortcut
If you don’t want to grind reputation first:
- Rogues can simply Stealth through Timbermaw Hold without engaging the furbolgs.
- Mages can use Invisibility to slip past unnoticed.
- Other classes can use an Alchemist-crafted Invisibility Potion to do the same trick.
There’s no seasonal event portal or alternate shortcut for Winterspring the way there sometimes is for Moonglade — the tunnel is the only intended way in.
Classic: How to Get to Winterspring from Orgrimmar or Stormwind
- Fly or ride out to Felwood — from Orgrimmar, this means crossing through Ashenvale and Felwood; from Stormwind, it’s a longer trek through Darkshore and Ashenvale.
- Build Timbermaw reputation (or use the class shortcuts above) and take the tunnel into Winterspring.
There’s no direct flight path from either capital — you always route through Felwood first.
🐉 Retail: How to Get to Winterspring with Flying
Once your character has an old-world flying mount unlocked (standard on any max-level character), the Timbermaw requirement becomes irrelevant:
- Simply fly directly over Felwood into Winterspring — no reputation check applies to flying mounts.
- If you’d rather use a flight path, Everlook has both Horde and Alliance flight masters just outside the town gates, connected to the standard Kalimdor flight network.
Retail: How to Get to Winterspring from Orgrimmar
- Fly (or take flight paths) toward Felwood, following the same general route as in Classic.
- Once above Felwood, continue flying north over the mountains directly into Winterspring — no ground tunnel or reputation needed.
Retail: How to Get to Winterspring from Stormwind
- Fly toward Darkshore and then Ashenvale/Felwood.
- Continue north over Felwood into Winterspring, landing near Everlook or Starfall Village.
How to Get to Winterspring from Moonglade
Moonglade and Winterspring share the exact same tunnel system through Timbermaw Hold, so if you’re already in Moonglade:
- Head to the tunnel junction inside Timbermaw Hold.
- Coming from the Moonglade side, take the fork that leads toward Felwood/Winterspring rather than doubling back the way you came.
- Druids can simply use their Teleport: Moonglade spell in reverse by flying out normally, since Moonglade has its own flight path connecting to Felwood’s Talonbranch Glade.
How to Get to Winterspring from Felwood
Felwood is the direct gateway zone for Winterspring in both Classic and Retail:
- Head to the northeastern tip of Felwood to find the Timbermaw Hold entrance.
- In Classic, you’ll need at least Unfriendly reputation with the Timbermaw (or a Rogue/Mage shortcut) to pass through safely.
- In Retail, skip the tunnel entirely and just fly north over the mountains.
How to Get to Winterspring from Ashenvale
Ashenvale is the zone most players pass through on their way to Felwood:
- Travel north through Ashenvale until you cross into Felwood.
- From there, follow the Classic tunnel route above, or simply keep flying north in Retail.
How to Get to Winterspring from Darkshore
Darkshore is the usual starting point for Alliance players heading this way:
- Travel through Ashenvale into Felwood, following the same route as above.
- Alternatively, in Classic, some players use a variation of the “die and respawn” trick from Darkshore to reach Moonglade’s graveyard first, then walk the short distance into Winterspring — though this is slower and less reliable than just leveling normally through Felwood.
How to Get to Winterspring from Azshara
Older guides mention trying to swim or glide directly from the northeastern corner of Azshara into Winterspring. This route has since been patched, and attempting it will just drown your character and send you to the nearest graveyard:
- Instead, backtrack through Felwood and use the Timbermaw Hold tunnel (Classic) or simply fly north over Felwood (Retail).
How to Get to Winterspring from Undercity
Undercity is on the wrong continent entirely, so this trip starts with a boat or portal to Kalimdor:
- Take the zeppelin from Undercity to Orgrimmar, or use a Horde mage’s Teleport: Orgrimmar if you know one.
- From Orgrimmar, head northwest through Ashenvale and into Felwood.
- Use the Timbermaw Hold tunnel (Classic) or fly directly north (Retail).
How to Get to Winterspring from Ironforge
Ironforge sits on the Eastern Kingdoms, so Alliance players need to cross continents first:
- Take the tram from Ironforge to Stormwind, then the boat from Stormwind’s harbor to Darnassus, or use an Alliance mage’s Teleport: Darnassus.
- From Darnassus, take the boat to Rut’theran Village on Teldrassil, then fly or ride south through Darkshore and Ashenvale into Felwood.
- Use the Timbermaw Hold tunnel (Classic) or fly directly north (Retail).
How to Get to Winterspring from Darnassus
Darnassus is the closest Alliance capital to Winterspring, geographically speaking:
- Take the boat from Darnassus to Rut’theran Village on Teldrassil (or ride out directly if already on the mainland side).
- Head south through Darkshore, then Ashenvale, and into Felwood.
- Use the Timbermaw Hold tunnel (Classic) or fly directly north over Felwood (Retail) — this is generally the shortest overland route of any capital city.
