Zaralek Cavern is the underground zone introduced in World of Warcraft Dragonflight Patch 10.1: Embers of Neltharion. Located directly beneath the Dragon Isles, it’s a sprawling cave system that hides Neltharion’s secret laboratory, the Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible raid, and the new Loamm Niffen faction.

Unlike most expansion zones, Zaralek Cavern has no portal and no loading screen — you physically fly into it through cave entrances in the Dragon Isles. There are three entrances in total, and you can enter freely once you’ve completed the short intro questline.

🔓 First Time: How to Unlock Zaralek Cavern

Zaralek Cavern requires a quick intro questline before you can properly access it. The good news: it’s short, takes about 15–20 minutes, and must only be done once per account.

Requirements:

• Level 70
• Main Dragon Isles storyline completed (up through The Forbidden Reach)

When you log in after Patch 10.1 launches (or on a new character meeting the requirements), you’ll automatically receive the quest The Land Beneath. This sends you to the Seat of the Aspects in Valdrakken to meet with Wrathion and Sabellian.

Step-by-Step: First Visit

1. Accept The Land Beneath — auto-given on login or from the Embers of Neltharion questline in the Forbidden Reach.
2. Go to the Seat of the Aspects in Valdrakken — speak with the Aspects and watch the cutscene.
3. Fly to Cascades Canyon — west of Valdrakken, on the border of Ohn’ahran Plains and Thaldraszus.
4. Investigate the glowing objects on the ground with Wrathion and Sabellian.
5. Dive into the cave entrance — the opening glows red-hot and is easy to spot.
6. Complete the intro scenario inside and you’ll gain full access to Zaralek Cavern.

How to Get to Zaralek Cavern from Stormwind

1. Go to the Portal Room in Stormwind (Mage Quarter, top of the Mage Tower).
2. Take the Valdrakken portal — requires completing the quest To Valdrakken to unlock.
3. From Valdrakken, fly southwest toward Cascades Canyon.
4. Dive into the cave entrance at Ohn’ahran Plains /way 87 29 or Thaldraszus /way 29.9 63.1

⚡ If you don’t see the Valdrakken portal, grab the alternate boat at Stormwind Harbor — the Rugged Dragonscale docks there and sails to The Waking Shores.

How to Get to Zaralek Cavern from Orgrimmar

1. Go to the Portal Room in the Valley of Strength in Orgrimmar.
2. Take the Valdrakken portal (requires To Valdrakken).
3. From Valdrakken, fly southwest to Cascades Canyon.
4. Dive into the cave entrance at /way Ohn'ahran Plains 87 29

⚡ Alternatively, the Defiant Dragonscale zeppelin departs from the tower south of Orgrimmar and also reaches The Waking Shores — useful if the portal isn’t unlocked yet.

How to Get to Zaralek Cavern from Valdrakken

This is the fastest route for anyone already in the Dragon Isles.

1. From Valdrakken, mount your Dragonriding drake.
2. Fly southwest out of the city toward the canyon border with Ohn’ahran Plains.
3. Look for the glowing red cave entrance in Cascades Canyon at /way Thaldraszus 29.9 63.1.
4. Dive in — no loading screen, you’re directly inside Zaralek Cavern.

🎯 The flight from Valdrakken to the nearest entrance takes under a minute on a Dragonriding mount.

Zaralek Cavern is connected to the overworld through three physical tunnel entrances, all reachable by flying or riding through them.

✅ The Cascades Canyon entrance is closest to Valdrakken and the one you’ll use most often — recommended as your default route.

Using Flight Paths Inside Zaralek Cavern

There are three flight masters inside Zaralek Cavern: in Loamm, Obsidian Rest, and Dragonscale Camp. Once you discover them during the campaign, you can reach them from any Dragon Isles flight master by clicking the zone selector in the lower-right corner of the flight map.

⚡ Note: You cannot use surface flight masters to fly directly into Zaralek Cavern. You still need to fly physically through one of the three cave entrances, then use the in-zone flight paths once you’re underground.

Alt Characters: Is There a Skip?

Zaralek Cavern currently does not have an intro skip for alts. Each character needs to complete the brief Embers of Neltharion intro chain independently. However, since the questline only takes about 15–20 minutes and the requirements are just Level 70 + Dragon Isles main story, it’s not a major barrier.
