Boralus is the seafaring Alliance capital of Kul Tiras, and even years after Battle for Azeroth launched, plenty of players — especially fresh 10s, boosted characters, and returning alts — still aren’t sure how to reach it. This guide covers how to get to Boralus from Stormwind, every other Alliance city, Orgrimmar, and the current expansion hub, for both WoW Retail and WoW Classic.
What Is Boralus?
Boralus is the seat of House Proudmoore and the capital of Kul Tiras, located in Tiragarde Sound. It’s the Alliance’s central hub for Battle for Azeroth content, home to the Siege of Boralus dungeon entrance, the Boralus auction house, and portals onward to Nazjatar, Mechagon, and Zandalar.
Boralus is Alliance territory. Horde characters are not welcome — city guards are hostile, and there’s no friendly way to walk in. Horde players looking for the equivalent hub want Dazar’alor in Zuldazar instead.
How to Get to Boralus From Stormwind
Stormwind is by far the easiest starting point, and it offers two reliable options. 🚢
The Boat (Works for Any Character, Any Time)
- Head to Stormwind Harbor, southeast of the Trade District.
- Look for The Relentless, the ship crewed by Kul Tiran sailors — it docks in the same spot as the Dragon Isles boat, so check the crew if you’re not sure which one just pulled in.
- Board it. It departs roughly every five minutes and sails straight to Boralus Harbor.

This works even if you’ve never touched Battle for Azeroth content on that character.
The Portal (Faster, But Needs Unlocking)
Once you’ve completed the early Kul Tiras questline through the Sanctum of the Sages quest, a permanent two-way portal to Boralus appears in the Stormwind portal room (Wizard’s Sanctum, Mage Quarter). Mages can also train Portal: Boralus and Teleport: Boralus from Yvia Wavebound once inside Boralus itself.
🎯 Tip: Portal room contents shift with every content patch, so if the Boralus portal seems to have vanished, the boat is always your fallback — it never gets removed.
How to Get to Boralus From Ironforge, Darnassus & The Exodar
None of these cities have a direct portal to Kul Tiras, so route through Stormwind first:
| From | Route |
|---|---|
| Ironforge | Deeprun Tram to Stormwind → Boralus portal or boat |
| Darnassus | Boat/portal to Stormwind → Boralus portal or boat |
| The Exodar | Boat to Auberdine or portal to Stormwind → Boralus portal or boat |
Once you’ve unlocked the Sanctum of the Sages portal room in Boralus itself, it also opens return portals to Stormwind, Ironforge, and the Exodar — so subsequent trips get much faster.
How to Get to Boralus From Orgrimmar (Horde)
There’s no legitimate path into Boralus for Horde characters — it’s enemy territory, and guards will attack on sight. If you’re looking for content in Kul Tiras as Horde, the intended route is:
- From Orgrimmar’s portal room (Pathfinder’s Den), take the portal to Dazar’alor.
- From Dazar’alor, board Wind’s Redemption or use the war campaign table to reach Tiragarde Sound as an invading force during the relevant war campaign quests.

For the full breakdown of Horde and Alliance travel across both continents, see the Kul Tiras and Zandalar travel guide.
How to Get to Boralus From Silvermoon City (Current Expansion Hub)
Since Midnight launched, Silvermoon City has become the shared hub for both factions, and it includes direct portals to Stormwind and Orgrimmar. From there:
- In Silvermoon, take the portal marked for Stormwind (Alliance) or Orgrimmar (Horde).
- From Stormwind’s portal room, take the Boralus portal or the harbor boat as described above.
If you’d rather start your journey from Quel’Thalas itself, check the Silvermoon City access guide for the full route in.
How to Get to Boralus From Valdrakken (Dragon Isles)
Valdrakken’s portal room connects to Stormwind and Orgrimmar as well. Take the portal to Stormwind, then use the Boralus boat or portal from there. Full directions to and from the Dragon Isles hub are in the Valdrakken travel guide.
Getting Deeper Into Kul Tiras From Boralus
Once you’re in Boralus, its own portal room opens up further travel once unlocked through quests:
- ✅ A portal to Nazjatar becomes available after the relevant BfA questline — see the Nazjatar guide for the unlock steps.
- ✅ Mechagon is reachable by boat from Boralus once you’ve progressed the Nazjatar storyline — details in the Mechagon guide.
- ✅ Zandalar (Horde continent) is reachable via Wind’s Redemption once your Alliance war campaign foothold is established.
Boralus is also the staging point for Battle for Azeroth raiding. If you’re gearing up, the full list of BfA raid entrances covers Uldir through Ny’alotha.
Is Boralus in WoW Classic?
No. ❌ Boralus is Battle for Azeroth content and doesn’t exist on any WoW Classic progression realm — Classic Era, Classic Hardcore, TBC Classic, Wrath Classic, Cataclysm Classic, or Mists of Pandaria Classic. Since Classic servers progress expansion-by-expansion and haven’t reached BfA, the earliest way to see Boralus is on retail WoW, where every expansion’s content is unlocked simultaneously through Chromie Time.
If Blizzard ever launches a Cataclysm-to-BfA style Classic progression through Battle for Azeroth, this section will get updated with the Classic-specific route.
