Tempest Keep: The Eye is the 25-player flagship raid of TBC Classic Anniversary Phase 2, releasing on May 14, 2026 alongside Serpentshrine Cavern. Floating above eastern Netherstorm, it holds four bosses — ending with Kael’thas Sunstrider, one of the most complex encounters in The Burning Crusade. This hub covers every guide you need to walk in prepared.

How to Get to Tempest Keep
The Eye is inside the floating Tempest Keep fortress in northern Netherstorm. You need a flying mount to reach the entrance — or a Warlock summon. The nearest flight master is Harpax in Cosmowrench at /way 65.2, 66.8. From there, fly northeast to the main island and enter through the central archway. The raid portal is inside.
Tempest Keep Attunement Overview
Attunement is mandatory to enter The Eye in TBC Classic Anniversary. The chain has three parts:
- Complete The Cipher of Damnation questline in Shadowmoon Valley (Alliance starts at Wildhammer Stronghold, Horde at Shadowmoon Village)
- Complete the Trials of the Naaru — multiple Heroic dungeon boss kills required
- Kill Magtheridon and return to A’dal in Shattrath to receive The Tempest Key
On Anniversary servers, attunements are account-wide once completed on any character. Full step-by-step breakdown in our Tempest Keep Attunement Guide.
Boss Order and Overview
The Eye has four bosses and none are optional. Al’ar, Void Reaver, and Solarian can be killed in any sequence. Kael’thas only unlocks after all three are dead.
| Boss | Location | Notable Drops | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Al’ar | Phoenix Hall | Epic weapons and armor | Medium — two-phase transition |
| Void Reaver | The Crucible | Tier 5 Shoulder Tokens | Easy — DPS check and positioning |
| High Astromancer Solarian | The Solarium | Epics ilvl 128 | Medium — add management and cleanse |
| Kael’thas Sunstrider | Tempest Bridge | T5 Chest, Ashes of Al’ar, Verdant Sphere, ilvl 138-141 weapons | Hard — most complex fight in Phase 2 |
Most guilds clear in this order: Void Reaver first (easiest kill, immediate shoulder tokens), then Al’ar, then Solarian, and finally Kael’thas.
Tier 5 Loot and Token System
The Eye provides two of the five Tier 5 token slots — shoulders and chest. The remaining three (helm, gloves, legs) come from Serpentshrine Cavern, meaning you’ll run both raids weekly to complete your set.
| Token Slot | Source Boss | Token Groups |
|---|---|---|
| Shoulders | Void Reaver | Champion (Paladin/Rogue/Shaman), Defender (Warrior/Priest/Druid), Hero (Hunter/Mage/Warlock) |
| Chest | Kael’thas Sunstrider | Champion, Defender, Hero |
Exchange tokens at Kelara (/way 23.6, 32.6) on Aldor Rise, or Veynna Dawnstar on Scryer’s Tier — both in Shattrath City.
Ashes of Al’ar
Ashes of Al’ar is a rare drop from Kael’thas Sunstrider — not from Al’ar himself despite the name. The drop rate is around 1-2%, making it one of the rarest mounts in TBC Classic Anniversary. It summons a phoenix and remains one of the most iconic flying mounts in the game.
What Kael’thas Drops Beyond Tier 5
Kael’thas drops significantly better loot than the other three bosses. Beyond the Tier 5 chest token, his loot table includes:
- Epics at item level 138 (armor) and 141 (weapons) — best-in-slot for many classes in Phase 2
- Verdant Sphere — starts a questline rewarding a BiS neck piece
- Kael’s Vial Remnant — required for the Mount Hyjal attunement quest (must be personally looted)
- Ashes of Al’ar — the legendary phoenix mount
Do You Need Resist Gear?
No. Unlike Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep requires zero resist gear. Walk in with your standard Phase 2 progression set — no Arcane resist farm, no Fire resist required.
