TBC Classic Jewelcrafting Leveling Guide 1-375 | Burning Crusade Anniversary

Jewelcrafting is one of the most powerful — and priciest — professions introduced in TBC Classic Anniversary. It lets you cut gems, craft rings and necklaces, and eventually produce the meta gems that practically every raider needs. If you level it smart, you don’t have to spend a fortune doing it.

This guide covers the full 1–375 leveling path, from your first Delicate Copper Wire all the way to your first meta gem cut in Outland. You’ll find trainer locations, a complete materials list, and the most cost-efficient crafting route at every stage.

Quick heads-up: because skill-ups involve some RNG, the quantities in this guide are estimates. You might need a few extra crafts here and there — that’s completely normal.

Why Pick Jewelcrafting in TBC Classic Anniversary?

Every piece of gear with a socket in TBC relies on gems to reach its full potential. That makes Jewelcrafters constantly in demand throughout the entire expansion. On top of that, the Prospecting skill lets you break down stacks of ore into raw gems — which can turn cheap Adamantite into rare gems worth serious gold on the Auction House.

The big downside is cost. Leveling JC from scratch without Mining as a paired profession can get expensive, especially in the 150–300 range where materials spike. Plan ahead and buy mats early when prices are lower.

💎 Best paired profession: Mining — cuts your leveling cost by 50% or more by letting you farm your own ore.

💎 Best race for Jewelcrafting: Draenei. Their Gemcutting racial gives +5 to Jewelcrafting skill, meaning cheaper recipes stay orange for 5 extra points — a small but real gold saver over the full 1–375 grind.

Required Tools — Buy These First

Before you craft a single item, grab these two tools from any Jewelcrafting Supplier or General Goods vendor:

Both are required for a large number of JC recipes. They’re cheap and easy to find — just don’t forget them or you’ll be stuck at your first craft.

Jewelcrafting Trainer Locations

You’ll need to visit trainers at several points to unlock new skill tiers. Here’s a quick reference:

Rank Skill Required Alliance Trainer Horde Trainer
Apprentice Level 5+ Farii — The Exodar Kalinda — Silvermoon City
Journeyman Skill 50 + Level 10 Any major city trainer Any major city trainer
Expert Skill 125 + Level 20 Any major city trainer Any major city trainer
Artisan Skill 225 + Level 35 Any major city trainer Any major city trainer
Master (TBC) Skill 300 Tatiana — Honor Hold, Hellfire Peninsula Kalaen — Thrallmar, Hellfire Peninsula

🎯 Pro tip: You can complete the entire 1–300 stretch during the TBC pre-patch while prices are low and competition is minimal. Then walk into Outland already capped at 300 and ready to push straight to 375.

Estimated Materials List (1–375)

These are approximate quantities. Actual amounts vary based on your RNG on yellow and orange recipe rolls. When in doubt, buy a little extra to avoid mid-session AH runs.

For 1–300 (Azeroth)

Material Approx. Quantity
Copper Ore / Copper Bar ~100
Tigerseye or Malachite ~20
Bronze Bar ~80
Shadowgem ~40
Moss Agate ~30
Mithril Ore / Citrine ~100 ore / 30 gems
Aquamarine ~20
Thorium Ore / Thorium Bar ~100
Huge Emerald / Azerothian Diamond ~20 of each

For 300–375 (Outland)

Material Approx. Quantity
Fel Iron Ore (for Prospecting) ~100–150 stacks
Common Outland Gems (various) ~60–80 total
Adamantite Ore (for Prospecting + crafts) ~100–200 stacks
Adamantite Bar ~40
Mercurial Adamantite (crafted) ~30–40
Rare Outland Gems / Earthstorm Diamond ~10–15 for finish

Leveling Jewelcrafting 1–300 (Azeroth)

1–30: Delicate Copper Wire

Start by crafting Delicate Copper Wire. Each one uses 1 Copper Bar and gives guaranteed skill-ups all the way to 30. This isn’t wasted material either — you’ll use these wires in several upcoming recipes. Craft around 40.

30–50: Tigerseye Band or Malachite Pendant

Both work equally well here. Use whichever gem is cheaper on your Auction House. Each costs 1 gem + 1 Delicate Copper Wire. Craft around 20 of whichever you pick.

At 50 (and level 10), visit your trainer to learn Journeyman Jewelcrafting.

50–80: Bronze Settings

Craft Bronze Settings (2 Bronze Bars each). These are a “bank step” — you won’t use them immediately, but they’re required for several upcoming recipes like Gloom Band. Make around 40 and keep them in your bags.

80–100: Gloom Band

Now spend those Bronze Settings. Each Gloom Band costs 1 Bronze Setting + 2 Shadowgems + 2 Delicate Copper Wire. Craft 20.

Alternatives: Ring of Silver Might (needs Silver Bars) or Simple Pearl Ring (needs Lustrous Pearls) both work if Shadowgems are expensive on your realm.

100–150: Heavy Jade Ring / Pendant of the Agate Shield

This stretch has two main options:

  • Pendant of the Agate Shield — requires 1 Moss Agate + 1 Bronze Setting. The design is a limited-stock recipe sold by Jandia at Freewind Post (Horde, Thousand Needles) or Neal Allen at Menethil Harbor (Alliance, Wetlands). If it’s camped on your realm, skip it entirely.
  • Heavy Jade Ring — requires Jade + Mithril Filigree. Slower but more reliable if you can’t get the Agate Shield design.

Visit your trainer at skill 125 and level 20 to learn Expert Jewelcrafting.

150–200: Mithril Filigree

Mithril Filigree (2 Mithril Bars each) is another setup craft that doubles as cheap leveling. Make around 40 and bank them — they’re needed for the next section.

Learn Artisan Jewelcrafting at skill 225 and level 35.

200–250: Citrine Ring of Rapid Healing / Aquamarine Signet

Use your banked Mithril Filigree here. Both the Citrine Ring of Rapid Healing and Aquamarine Signet are solid choices depending on which gems are cheapest. Aim for around 30 crafts across this range.

250–300: Thorium Settings → Rings & Pendants

Craft Thorium Settings (2 Thorium Bars each) as another bank step, then burn through them on Thorium-based rings and pendants. The stretch finishes cleanly at 300 with consistent skill-ups.

🎯 Important: Don’t cross 300 skill without first traveling to Outland and training Master Jewelcrafting. Your skill cap is 300 until you do.

Leveling Jewelcrafting 300–375 (Outland)

The moment you step into Hellfire Peninsula, find your Master trainer and unlock the TBC skill cap. Without this, you literally can’t gain skill points past 300.

300–325: Common Outland Gem Cuts

The cheapest way through this bracket is cutting common Outland gems. Prospect Fel Iron Ore to get a mix of gems like Deep Peridot, Flame Spessarite, and Golden Draenite, then cut whatever is cheapest today. You’re buying skill points here, not optimizing stats.

Check the Hellfire Peninsula vendors — you can pick up several early designs from the faction traders at Honor Hold or Thrallmar without any rep requirement.

325–345: Mercurial Adamantite + Heavy Adamantite Ring

This is the workhorse stretch. Mercurial Adamantite (3 Adamantite Powder + 1 Primal Earth, crafted) gives steady skill points and feeds into later recipes. Heavy Adamantite Ring (2 Adamantite Bar + 1 Mercurial Adamantite) is the complementary craft when Mercurial slows down.

Note on Mercurial Adamantite: You need a Mercurial Stone in your bags to craft it — it’s not consumed, just required to be present. Buy one from the AH or ask an Alchemist.

345–365: Rare Gem Cuts and Jewelry

By now your options open up considerably. Prospect Adamantite Ore for rare gems like Living Ruby, Star of Elune, and Dawnstone. The cuts you can do depend on which designs you’ve picked up — check your realm’s AH to see which rare gem cuts are still orange and which are cheaper.

The Figurine – Nightseye Panther is worth mentioning here as a standout early craft. It’s a Jewelcrafter-only trinket that’s genuinely useful and gives skill points while crafting it.

Skill Range Recommended Crafts Key Materials
300–325 Common Outland gem cuts (Draenite, Peridot, Spessarite) Prospect Fel Iron Ore
325–345 Mercurial Adamantite + Heavy Adamantite Ring Adamantite Ore + Primal Earth
345–365 Rare gem cuts or jewelry Prospect Adamantite Ore for rare gems
365–375 Meta gem cuts Earthstorm Diamond / Skyfire Diamond

365–375: Meta Gems

Meta gems are the cleanest finish to Jewelcrafting. Designs like Insightful Earthstorm Diamond, Powerful Earthstorm Diamond, and Swift Skyfire Diamond give skill points and are in constant demand for raiding. Whatever you craft here, you can sell in trade chat or on the AH and recoup some of your leveling cost.

Prospecting — The Core Skill of TBC Jewelcrafting

Prospecting converts 5 ore into random gems and is the backbone of how Jewelcrafting works at max skill. Here’s what each ore type yields:

Ore (5x) Min Skill Common Gems Rare Gems
Copper Ore 20 Tigerseye, Malachite Shadowgem
Tin Ore 50 Shadowgem, Moss Agate, Lesser Moonstone Citrine, Jade, Aquamarine
Iron Ore 125 Lesser Moonstone, Citrine, Jade Aquamarine, Star Ruby
Mithril Ore 175 Aquamarine, Citrine, Star Ruby Huge Emerald, Azerothian Diamond, Blue Sapphire
Thorium Ore 250 Huge Emerald, Azerothian Diamond, Large Opal Outland green gems (occasional)
Fel Iron Ore 300 All Outland common gems Occasional rare Outland gems
Adamantite Ore 325 All Outland common gems + Adamantite Powder Living Ruby, Star of Elune, Dawnstone, etc.

🎯 Not every ore is worth prospecting. Always compare the AH price of 5 ore vs the average value of gems you’d get from prospecting it. On most realms, Adamantite Ore prospecting is profitable — Fel Iron is usually break-even at best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Jewelcrafting worth leveling in TBC Classic Anniversary?

Yes, Jewelcrafting is one of the strongest professions in TBC Classic Anniversary. Gems go into virtually every piece of gear with sockets, and meta gems are required for most raid builds. Once you hit 375, you’ll have constant demand for your cuts — both from guildmates and from the Auction House.

What is the cheapest way to level Jewelcrafting 1-375?

Pair Jewelcrafting with Mining to drastically cut your material costs. For the 1–300 stretch, level during the pre-patch when prices are low and competition is minimal. From 300–375, Prospect Fel Iron Ore for common gems to push through 300–325, then rely on Mercurial Adamantite and Heavy Adamantite Ring for the 325–345 range.

Where do I learn Master Jewelcrafting in TBC?

Alliance players go to Tatiana at Honor Hold in Hellfire Peninsula. Horde players speak with Kalaen at Thrallmar, also in Hellfire Peninsula. You can train Master Jewelcrafting the moment you arrive in Outland with 300 skill.

Do I need Mining to level Jewelcrafting?

You don’t need it, but it helps enormously. Without Mining, you’ll spend a lot of gold buying ore and gems from the Auction House. With Mining, you can prospect your own ore and farm your own materials, cutting costs by 50% or more throughout the entire leveling process.

What should I craft from 365 to 375 in Jewelcrafting?

Meta gems are the best choice for the final stretch. Designs like Insightful Earthstorm Diamond, Powerful Earthstorm Diamond, and Swift Skyfire Diamond give skill points and sell well on the Auction House. You’ll recover some of your leveling investment just from selling these.

What is Mercurial Adamantite and how do I craft it?

Mercurial Adamantite is a key material crafted from 3 Adamantite Powder + 1 Primal Earth. To craft it, you need a Mercurial Stone in your bags — it’s not consumed, just required. You can buy a Mercurial Stone from the AH or have an Alchemist make one for you.

Is Draenei the best race for Jewelcrafting?

For pure Jewelcrafting efficiency, yes. Draenei have the Gemcutting racial ability, which adds +5 to Jewelcrafting skill. This keeps cheaper recipes orange (guaranteed skill-up) for 5 extra points at each tier, saving a meaningful amount of gold over the full 1–375 journey.
