TBC Classic Leatherworking Leveling Guide 1-375 | Anniversary 2026

Leatherworking is one of the most material-heavy professions to level in TBC Classic Anniversary, but if you plan it properly it’s also one of the smoothest. The key is knowing which recipes to stick with, when to switch, and how to avoid overspending on the Auction House.

This guide covers the full 1–375 path — trainers, materials, and the most efficient crafting route at each bracket. If you want to know more about endgame Drums, specializations, and BiS crafted gear, check the full TBC Classic Leatherworking Guide.

Best paired with: Skinning. Every leather type you need drops from beasts, and having Skinning cuts your material cost dramatically throughout the entire leveling process.

Complete Materials List

Stock up before you start — running out mid-session and waiting on AH deliveries kills your momentum.

Classic Phase (1–300)

Outland Phase (300–375)

Material Amount Needed
Knothide Leather ~1510
Fel Hide ~24
Thick Clefthoof Leather ~24

🎯 These numbers are estimates. Skill-up RNG means you might need slightly more or less. Buy a small buffer — especially for Thick Leather and Rugged Leather, where price spikes happen fast in Phase 1.

Where to Train Leatherworking

In TBC Classic, you can learn all ranks up to Artisan from trainers in any major city. No more running to specific zones for each rank.

Horde Trainers (1–300):

Alliance Trainers (1–300):

Master Leatherworking (300–375): Head to Hellfire Peninsula as soon as you hit 300. Horde trains with Barim Spilthoof at Thrallmar, Alliance trains with Brumman at Honor Hold. Both factions can also use Darmari in Shattrath City.

Leveling Path 1–300

1–55 (Apprentice)

Start by converting Ruined Leather Scraps into Light Leather if you have them. If not, skip straight to Light Armor Kits.

Threads, dyes, and salt are all available from Leatherworking Supply vendors right next to your trainer.

55–135 (Journeyman — requires level 10)

Hold onto the Fine Leather Belts — you may need them for the next step.

Alternative for 120–135: If Medium Hide is cheaper than 16x Medium Leather on the AH, cure the hides into Cured Medium Hide and use them for Dark Leather Belt instead. Check AH prices before committing.

135–205 (Expert — requires level 20)

  • 135–150: 25x Dark Leather Pants — 300x Medium Leather, 25x Gray Dye, 25x Fine Thread
  • 150–155: 7x Heavy Leather conversion — 35x Medium Leather
  • 155–165: 20x Cured Heavy Hide — 20x Heavy Hide, 60x Salt (save these for later)
  • 165–180: 15x Heavy Armor Kit — 75x Heavy Leather, 15x Fine Thread
  • 180–190: 10x Barbaric Shoulders — 80x Heavy Leather, 10x Cured Heavy Hide, 20x Fine Thread
  • 190–200: 10x Guardian Gloves — 40x Heavy Leather, 10x Cured Heavy Hide, 10x Silken Thread
  • 200–205: 5x Thick Armor Kit — 25x Thick Leather, 5x Silken Thread

No Heavy Hides available? If the AH is dry, replace 155–205 with Heavy Armor Kits (175x Heavy Leather total) and Barbaric Leggings once you reach 180. It’s a bit more leather-heavy but doesn’t need any hides at all.

205–300 (Artisan — requires level 35)

🎯 The 265–290 stretch with Rugged Armor Kits is one of the best value sections of the entire leveling path. They’re cheap to make, sell reasonably on the AH, and give consistent skill-ups.

Leveling Path 300–375

Once you hit 300, get to Hellfire Peninsula immediately and train Master Leatherworking before crafting anything else — the skill cap won’t move past 300 without it.

300–325

These kits sell well on the AH — they’re used for the heavy version later and are an easy flip even during leveling.

325–340

340–360

If Fel Hide is expensive on your server, replace the 340–350 bracket with more Heavy Knothide Armor Kits — it takes a few more mats but skips the hide dependency entirely.

360–375

  • 360–370: 15x Heavy Knothide Armor Kit — 75x Heavy Knothide Leather
  • 370–375: 5x Drums of Battle — 30x Heavy Knothide Leather, 20x Thick Clefthoof Leather (requires The Sha’tar — Honored for the pattern)

No Drums pattern yet? Finish 370–375 with more Heavy Knothide Armor Kits instead. The Drums of Battle pattern is worth farming before this point, but it’s not a hard blocker.

Tips to Save Gold While Leveling

Check Heavy Hide prices before you commit. This material can be surprisingly expensive or surprisingly cheap depending on server population and how many skinners are active. If it’s inflated, use the hide-free alternative routes — you’ll still get there.

Don’t craft too far into green recipes. Once a recipe turns green on your skill bar, the chance of getting a skill-up drops significantly. Switch to the next recipe bracket as soon as you can.

Keep your Knothide Leather stacked. In Outland, Knothide Leather is the base material for almost everything. Having large stacks ready means you can craft in batches rather than constantly visiting the AH.

Do the Classic phase during pre-patch if you can. Leatherworking is capped at 300 during the TBC Anniversary pre-patch, so completing 1–300 early means you enter Outland ready to push straight into profitable Outland crafts on day one with cheaper Classic-era material prices.

For farming locations to gather these materials yourself, check out the TBC Classic Skinning Farming Guide.

What to Do After 375

Once you hit max skill, the focus shifts entirely to endgame crafting. Pick your specialization if you haven’t already, grind The Sha’tar to Honored for Drums of Battle, and work toward Honored with Thrallmar or Honor Hold for the Leg Armor patterns.

FAQ

How long does it take to level Leatherworking 1-375 in TBC Classic Anniversary?

With materials ready on the Auction House, you can level 1-375 in a few hours of active crafting. The real time investment is gathering or buying materials. With Skinning, farming takes longer but costs almost nothing.

Is Skinning required to level Leatherworking?

No, it’s not required — you can buy everything from the Auction House. But Skinning cuts your material cost by 50% or more and makes the entire leveling process much cheaper. It’s strongly recommended, especially on fresh TBC Anniversary servers where prices are elevated.

What is the hardest material to get for Leatherworking 1-375?

Heavy Hide (used around 155-205) tends to be the most unpredictable. It has a low drop rate and prices can spike hard. The guide includes a hide-free alternative route for this bracket so you’re never stuck.

When should I learn Master Leatherworking for the 300-375 section?

The moment you hit 300 skill. Head immediately to Hellfire Peninsula and train from Barim Spilthoof (Horde, Thrallmar), Brumman (Alliance, Honor Hold), or Darmari (both factions, Shattrath). Without training Master rank, your skill cap stays at 300 and nothing will give skill-ups.

Can I level Leatherworking to 300 during the TBC Anniversary pre-patch?

Yes. Leatherworking is capped at 300 during the pre-patch period. Leveling it early is actually the smart move — Classic leather prices are lower before Outland launches, so completing 1-300 ahead of time saves gold.

What should I craft to finish the last few points at 370-375?

Drums of Battle (if you have The Sha’tar Honored for the pattern) or Heavy Knothide Armor Kits are the most reliable finishers. Note that Drums of Battle turns green at 372, so the final few points may take extra crafts.
